Q: What is All-Stars softball?
A: All-Stars is a competitive, post-season softball program where players are selected from regular-season teams based on skill, attitude, and sportsmanship. It’s a step up from recreational play, with more focus on competition, travel, and team commitment.
Q: How are players chosen for All-Stars?
A: A tryout will be held 4/22 from 5-7pm unless we finish early and on 4/27 4-6pm unless we finish early. There will be an evaluation of your child’s skill in hitting, defense and base running. Selection is competitive and not all players make a team.
Q: What’s the time commitment like?
A: All-Stars requires a higher commitment. Teams typically practice 2-3 times a week, with weekend tournaments that may involve travel. The season usually runs from late May through summer, depending on how far the team advances in tournaments.
Q: Do we have to travel?
A: Yes, most All-Star tournaments are regional and require travel, sometimes overnight (rarely, but can happen). As teams advance, they may qualify for the Cal State games in San Diego July 17 - July 20
Q: How much does it cost?
A: $300, which will get your child (2) sets of uniforms including socks, practice shirt, sweatshirt, and a team helmet.
Q: Can my child play other sports or go on vacation during All-Stars?
A: It depends on the team and coach. All-Stars is a commitment, and missing practices or games can impact playing time. Talk to the coach upfront about any schedule conflicts.
Q: What age groups can play All-Stars?
A: 8U-14U
Q: What’s the difference between All-Stars and travel ball?
A: All-Stars is usually a short, summer season after rec ball, while travel ball teams play year-round. All-Stars is often seen as a stepping stone to travel ball for players looking to develop further.
Q: Why should we consider All-Stars?
A: All-Stars gives players a chance to compete at a higher level, bond with teammates, grow their skills, and experience the excitement of tournament play. It’s also a great confidence builder.
