PRACTICE FIELD CLOSURES
In order to maintain the integrity of the practice fields the City will close them if "sufficient" rain falls during a given period of time. When this happens there will be no practice. According to costly taxpayer-funded studies, "cleats" do far more damage to "wet and muddy fields" than they do to "dry fields" - who woulda thunk it? Now, what constitutes "sufficient" rain to close the fields is something of an enigma, and guessing by the amount of rainfall at any given time never works. Sometimes, it's pouring and the fields are open. On other occasions a light drizzle will shut them down. It's all something of a crap-shoot.
FIELD HOT LINE
The City has a "Field Hot Line" that we can call to see whether a particular field will be open or closed on that day. The number is 818 790 8898. If you call the number, listen to the entire message. Sometimes only certain fields will be closed. The Athletic Directors will also keep tabs and will immediately advise everyone via email of a closure. Most of the time the hot line number is updated several times a day and the final update usually occurs around 3:00 p.m. So be sure and check your afternoon emails, and if you cannot do that call hot line number after 3:00 p.m. We will also post a closure on the Main Page.
WEATHER & GAMES
The above information relates solely to practice. Rainfall never impacts a game. So if it's pouring rain on game day, bring an umbrella, tent, or wet suit and paddle your flotation device of choice to the field. The only conditions that may effect a game are either the presence of lightning or the Zombie Apocalypse - and if it happens to be the latter please remember only head-shots work and we will make our last stand in the equipment room and snack bar.
FIRES
So we live in Southern California where it is common to have more "fiery" days than "rainy" ones. If there is a fire practice or games may be impacted. This depends on the proximity of the fire, wind, weather conditions and the like. If the air quality is unhealthy, or if La Canada is burning down, practice will probably be cancelled. Check air quality here.
