The Jesse Ales 11th Annual Men's Softball Tournament was held last weekend by the Mendocino Coast Recreation and park District.
The Tournament, named after a local man who Died too young, brings teams from all over Mendocino, Lake, Sonoma and Humboldt counties.This two day double-elimination tournament started Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and finished with the final Championship game starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Local teams included Round Table, Young Guns, Rockstop, Kemgas, Phillbrick Logging, and B&C/Ales and out of town teams were Westec, Outlaws, The Locker Room, Fleet Pride, Top Contenders and The Tri County Bandits.Saturdays games were elimination play, with six of the 12 teams going on to the following day.
Sundays games at 9 a.m. saw Round Table beat Fleet Pride and Kemgas beat Westec.Round Table then defeated Kemgas and B&C/Ales lost to Tri County. In the third place game B&C/Ales defeated Round Table 16-3,giving Round Table the third place trophy and leaving B&C/Ales to face Tri County Bandits again for the Championship.
The game was played at 1:30 p.m. with B&C/Ales winning 9-6 but because it was Tri County's first loss, they had to play a secomd Championship.The final game started at 3 p.m. and resulted in Tri County Bandits defeating B&C/Ales 13-10 to take the Championship for the third year in a row.
All Tourney awards were given to Kyle Arnold and Donnie Tupper of Kemgas, both batting .625 and Russel(.650) and Dee (.727) Latner of Round Table.For B&C/Ales all tourneys were Jason Hawk, with a ave of .553, Donnie Madrigal with a .600 ave and Kevin Brown with a .607.
The all tourneys for Tri County Bandits were Jesse Bussard with a .571 ave, Brandon Davis with a .600 and Jason Fayter with a .636.The tournament MVP was a player who batted an amazing .800 ave and also happens to be the son of the man the tournament is named after; Jesse's son Casey Ales..
