9/7/24 - CMAC DEVELOPMENTAL MEET RESULTS - BEULAH RALPH ELEM - COLUMBIA

Not sure about the rest of you, but it sure was nice to have the first fall-feeling day be on the first meet of the season!  Difficult to draw it up any better than that.   It was a nice, crisp morning that got progressively warmer as things continued; but it never got hot.  Thank you to all that put in a hand to help in any way to make the meet go well.  Today we had 311 racers, and a very good audience that kept things positive and encouraging.  That's super important.  Remember that all of these young men and women competing are ultimately on the same team, so keep them all going if you can at each race.

 

As mentioned at the meet today, this was just a developmental event.  So every athlete ran 1K less than what they'll run at the first regular season meet in Fulton.  The 8U athletes will run a 2K for the remainder of the season.  The 9-10 and 11-12 athletes will run a 3K for the remainder of the season, and the 13-14 athletes will continue a 3K through September, then move up to a 4K starting in October.  Going into the regular season means that we'll get a bit pickier about rules.  REMEMBER THAT NO ONE CAN RUN WITH OR WALK WITH ANY ATHLETE.  Disqualification can happen, and no one wants that to happen.  Please let the athletes fight and finish on their own merit and efforts.  Spectators, parents, coaches and other athletes can meet runners from point to point on the course to encourage, but no going along with them at all.  Thank you.

 

COMPETE AND TRY is what we should be getting across to each of the athletes at meets as well as at practices.  Hopefully they are starting to round into shape as the regular season is closing in on us at Fulton on 9/22.  Speaking of Fulton, there will be an adult 2K race there to start the day (and each other regulare season meet).  Show those kids how it's done!  Register at the canopy with any monetary donation.  All donations go towards the CMAC All-Stars national trip which hopefully again will include a team dinner, and a fun activity the day before the races, as well as a national tee shirt for each athlete that travels.

 

The deadline to get your teams registered for the next meet isn't until Thursday, 9/19.  So, coaches stay on top of your Google Spreadsheets.  Any new entries to your team need to go to the bottom and highlighted so a bib number can be assigned.  If any of your athletes walked up and received a bib number that wasn't within your number range, then those numbers are void now.  Go with the numbers by the names of the athletes on your initial CMAC / YES roster please.

 

A think to mention really quick about athletes that pull out of a race.  Whether it is for an injury, or just feeling like they cannot finish a race and pulls out, that athlete or a representative from that team needs to go inform the finish line that the athlete has pulled out.  When a race starts, a count is given to the finish line, and they are expecting that number to cross the line at the end.  When the number is short, it can create a bit of panic wondering if something has gone wrong.  So, please let the finish line know if this ever happens.

 

There will be a CMAC All-Star practice in Columbia for those interested on this approaching Saturday, 9/14 at 10 a.m.  The location is Smithton Park (3501 W. Worley).  There is no requirement at all for this.  It is just a chance for interested athletes to get in another practice and get to know each other.  We've seen many friendships made over the years through this.  It also helps to experience different types of workouts, and be around other competitive young men and women that are working hard with goals.  We realize that for some of you Columbia is far for a practice.  But if you have some business you may want and need to handle in the area anyway, then build this into your schedule if possible.  If you can make it, try to wear something that identifies you with your CMAC team.  Coaches of CMAC teams, you are very welcome to help carry out the plan / workout for the day by being involved with a group and running with them.   For those of you that cannot make it Satueday, practice hard at your regularly scheduled practices and on your own time, get better and we'll see you in Fulton.  The next All-Star practices are scheduled for: Sat 10/26, Sat 11/2 & Sat 11/16. 

 

Spread the word about the remaining meets as any kid of age can run in the races.  They do not have to be members of a team.  They may just enjoy themselves and find a new passion.
