Jean Lane was a former fast-pitch player. She started playing outfield with Maida Pharmacy, a travel team established in the 50’s and early 60’s. She also played for the Unity Club, a local fast-pitch team from Wilmington, Delaware. She won several state championships. In the late 60’s and early 70’s, Jean switched over to the Shamrocks, and again won several state championships. When the fast-pitch circuit folded, Jean began playing slow-pitch. Her career started with the Wilmington Turners Club team. In 1974, she decided to start pitching and continued playing outfield. She won regional championships with the F.O.E. Eagles, and her team ventured to the National Championships in Sacramento, California. After nationals, Jean continued playing for several women’s teams in the New Castle County Sports program. In 1997, Jean led the Blue Chicks to the Gold Medal in the 50-54 age bracket in Louisville, Kentucky. The Blue Chicks have been Senior State Champions since 1999. Jean also coached the St. Elizabeth’s High School softball team in the 70’s. Jean played an active role as a member on the DASA Council, in the late 80’s and early 90’s. She is currently employed at the University of Delaware. (Inducted – Class of 2008)
