It will be held July 17-21, 2024, all over the state of Michigan. It will be Michigan's premier event of the summer! The Motor City Classic has 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, and 17/18U age groups. Please note some pools will start on July 18th or July 19th (depending on pool play site). No teams will be required to play on July 17th. It is optional. The 2023 tournament had 316 teams play. This was Michigan's largest tournament in 2021, 2022, 2023, and is on track to be again in 2024.

The Motor City Classic Baseball Tournament allows coaches to pick the pool play site for their respective teams! Please contact Matt Sandles for details on picking your team's pool play site. Matt Sandles can be reached via text or phone call at 248-752-8185. He can also be reached at Novisandles@aol.com. The Motor City Classic Baseball Tournament is running pool play sites all over the state of Michigan in order to make this tournament geographically accessible to more teams. This tournament has run pools all the way from Livonia to Grand Rapids and even north of Flint! Sunday's playoffs for all age groups will be in southeast Michigan. Texting or calling Matt Sandles is preferred over e-mailing him if possible. Teams typically play all of their pool play games at a single site for the duration of the tournament. Although the tournament will start on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024, playing that day is optional for local teams. There is also the possibility that the 14U and 15U divisions will not begin play until Friday, July 19th depending on pool play site. Any teams from out of town in the 16U and 17/18U divisions need to be prepared to play on Thursday, July 18th. The 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, and 13U divisions will only run July 19-21. 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, and 13U teams will not begin before Friday, July 19th, under any circumstances. The 2022 event had 139 teams. Winners and runners up in each age group will receive rings. 13U is three games guaranteed. 14U and 15U are four games guaranteed. 16U and 17/18U are five games guaranteed. All these game guarantees are weather-permitting. 

The 2021 event had 212 teams from Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, California, etc. It was Michigan's largest tournament!

The Motor City Classic is now offering 11U and 12U Divisions in Livonia, Michigan! The 11U Division will run at Ford Field, in Livonia, Michigan, and the 12U Division will run at Bicentennial Park in Livonia, Michigan. The dates are July 21-23, 2023. Both sites have lights and an onsite grounds crew (through Livonia Parks & Rec Department)! The first eight (8) 11U teams to register for Ford Field and the first sixteen (16) 12U teams to register for Bicentennial Park (in Livonia, Michigan) will be guaranteed a night game in primetime, under the lights! If interested in playing at Ford Field or at Bicentennial Park in Livonia, Michigan, please text me at 248-752-8185. Our website is leaguelineup.com/MotorCityClassic if you want to look at it. I have included pictures of the fields. Playoffs would be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, in the Livonia. Pool play concludes the night of July 22nd. All game guarantees are weather-permitting. The tournament is a three-game guarantee for 11U and for 12U. I am willing to offer teams guaranteed games under the lights and all of their pool play games at these sites. These will be played at 50/70 dimensions.
The cost is $575 per team. For the 2021 tournament, as of May 4, 2021, our fields include (but are not limited to): Lake Trust Stadium at Cleary College, North Farmington High School, Warrior Park at Stevens Complex (home to Brother Rice High School), Ford Field in Livonia, Bicentennial Field in Livonia, Novi High School, Saline High School (two fields), old Saline High School (one field), Northville High School, Hillside (in Northville), West Bloomfield High School (which has turf), Elite Sports Complex in Dearborn Heights (two fields), Farmington High School, Lakeland High School, Division I Oakland University, Division I Eastern Michigan University, Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest High School, Lutheran Westland High School, Plymouth Christian High School, Grand Blanc High School (two fields), Ortonville Brandon High School (two fields), Allen Park High School, Lincoln Park High School, Broome Park, Kearsley High School (two fields), Holly High School, Edsel Ford High School, Bloomfield Hills High School, the old Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School, Waterford Mott, etc.

 

At Novi High School, metal cleats are allowed. No consumption of sunflower seeds. No consumption of sports drink (water only).

This tournament is a five-game guarantee for 16U and 17/18U (weather-permitting), a four-game guarantee for 14U and 15U (weather-permitting), and a three-game guarantee for 13U division (which is a three-game guarantee).

 

 

The tournament is geared towards older teams. There will be 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, and 17U/18U divisions. I encourage teams from anywhere in the country (and  Canada) to enter this tournament!

 

Matt Sandles is the tournament director. Matt was the head coach of the highly-successful 18U Michigan Jets for five years and this will be his seventh year running tournaments.

 

 

 

 

The idea behind the tournament was to bring a competitive end of summer "World Series"-type event to the Metro Detroit area that would draw teams, college coaches, and pro scouts from all over. Unlike most tournament directors, Matt plans to focus his energy on this one tournament in order to make it the single best event that the state of Michigan has to offer on a yearly basis going forward. The approach combines several concepts.:

 

1. Location - I want this tournament to be very accessible for teams in the Metro Detroit area but strongly encourage teams from all over the country (and Canada) to join us. I plan to use quality fields that are primarily located in Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, Genesee, Livingston, and Washtenaw Counties.

 

2. Effort - I plan to e-mail a schedule and rosters to every college coach in the country. In addition, by focusing our attention on this one event, this tournament will get the attention it deserves. This includes social media promotion, recruiting a wide variety of teams, communication with coaches, etc. Over 400 pro scouts will be made aware of the event as well.

 

3. Quality Umpires - I will be very selective when choosing experienced umpires for this tournament.

 

4. Quality awards - There will be individual awards and a team award for the Champion and Runner Up in each age group.

 

5. Accessibility - The tournament director will be very easy to contact. You should have no problem reaching a tournament director with any questions.
