GREENVILLE GIRLS SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION, INC.
Welcome to the GGSA Official web site! Here you will find all sorts of helpful information about our youth softball program here in Greenville, Ohio.
GGSA is a Non-Profit organization that was founded in 1972. We are dedicated to providing recreational softball activities for over 500 girls in Greenville and the surrounding areas. GGSA offers all Darke County girls Slow-Pitch & Fast-Pitch softball for girls ages 4-19 years old.
In 2001 GGSA moved into our new softball complex "Stebbins Field" located just north of Greenville, Ohio, on State route 49 North after playing at the Ohio Street diamonds between the Greenville Creek and VFW Hall for many years. The Stebbins Field complex is privately owned by GGSA and was made possible through generous donations of individuals and businesses and the annual fundraising efforts of our players and their families. It is through this type of support and selfless dedication that Stebbins Field was built and continues to thrive today.
In 2008 construction began on a new permanent concession stand and restroom facility at the Stebbins Field complex. The more than 4,000 square foot building provides the girls of Greenville and Darke County a facility to operate out of for generations to come.
In 2009 the 4 acre field extending directly south from the new concession stand was purchased with plans for future expansion with the possibility of two diamonds being built on the new land. The two additonal diamonds would open up the possibility to bigger tournaments and less scheduling issues for future GGSA and other community and organizational groups that regularly use the diamonds in support of GGSA.
In 2012 a major refurbishing of all four diamonds, including sod placed in all foul territories, warm-up circle cutouts, coaches box cutouts, fields leveled, and new material, Southern Red Rock, were added to all four diamonds.
In 2013 it was the addition of the New Lady Wave Stadium at Stebbins Field. The Lady Wave Softball program, head coach Jarrod Newland, and the many supporters of Greenville Softball came together once again. This time to build a stadium style facility at Stebbins Field, the home of the Greenville Girls Softball Association & The Greenville High School Lady Wave Softball team. The new project included completely refurbishing diamond #3 and adding brick dugouts, a brick back stop with netting, press box, locker room, bullpen, and stadium style seating which will seat nearly 350 people just within the bleacher area behind home plate. The project is a great addition to Stebbins Field, the City of Greenville, Darke County, and the local softball community.
In 2015 diamonds #3 and #4 were lighted giving Stebbins Field a total of four lit diamonds which will help alleviate scheduling conflicts during league and tournament play. Eldora Speedway and general manager Roger Slack stepped up to the plate with a generous donation of 40 light fixtures. The famous Darke County racetrack formerly owned by the late Earl Baltes and owned now by motor racing superstar Tony Stewart were the first to donate to the project giving the project a real boost. The project was completed midway through the 2015 season after The Coppock Hole Trust, Harry Stephens Fund, and 3-Way Electric contributed with major donations to the project.
In 2019 the construction of two new diamonds began following the summer season as diamonds #5 and #6 became a reality with the construction of two new fields on the property that was purchased back in 2009 for future expansion. The two fields include backstops, dugouts, and outfield fences. The two fields were built to accommodate larger tournament and practice schedules. Funding for this expansion project was provided by multiple local individuals, trusts, and business.
The first games on Diamonds #5 & #6 took place on on Monday, June 1, 2020, a full month after the scheduled start of the 2020 season after the season was postponed due to the COVID 19 pandemic! The 48th Annual GGSA Opening Day was cancelled due to the pandemic along with many other softball events including the Greenville High School Lady Wave season, OHSAA Regionals, Miami Valley League Jr High Tournament, GGSA Treaty City Rec All-Star Tournament, and the Cross County Fast Pitch League. GGSA opened the season on June 1st and played through the second week of August. League officials opened up their leagues to all Darke County Girls after many organizations were forced to cancel their season due to the pandemic. Leagues included, T-Ball, Munchkin, 3rd/4th Fast Pitch, 5th/6th Fast Pitch, and 7th/8th Grade Fast Pitch. GGSA hosted just one tournament in 2020, the GGSA Summer Smackdown in June. The organization also hosted the GGSA Fall Fast Pitch League during the month of September.
In 2023, improvements continued with the addition of a paved walkway which connected the concession stand to Diamonds 5 & 6 on the south side of the complex. Also through more generous donations, the organization was able complete paving of the south entrance and driveway and handicap parking lot. With the additional paving, the handicap parking lot near diamonds 5 & 6 are now wheel chair accessible from the south shelter house, to the main conession stand & restrooms, Lady Wave Stadium, Diamonds 1-4, and the main parking lot. Great work Grenville!
Without the support of the Greenville and Darke County Community, GGSA would not be what it is today! The Stebbins Field Complex, Lady Wave Stadium, The Greenville Girls Softball Association, and the great softball tradition in Greenville is a direct reflection of the support given by the Greenville Community over the decades!
The current Officers and Trustees are committed and take very seriously the responsibility of maintaining the ballpark, the organization, and the tradition. Thank you!
GGSA "GOAL"
Our purpose is to provide an enjoyable, healthy, recreational activity for every girl in Darke County that will foster and promote softball competition among young girls. While developing the girl's athletic ability, the girls will learn the proper fundamentals of softball, the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and that winning is important, but learning to handle defeat is equally as important and builds self-confidence and reveals character.
Our programs are designed to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual well being of girls by teaching them the importance of teamwork, developing respect for others, and the application of the Golden Rule in human relationships. While the attainment of athletic skills and sportsmanship are encouraged, the real goal is to install values that will contribute to the future development of young women in the program.
