Braves Name New Manager
***
The Barton Braves are proud to announce Bill Timko as their new manager effectively immediately. Bill takes over for former Barton Skipper Mike Kolvek who is stepping aside but will still be on the Braves Roster in the starting pitching rotation. Bill is a Bartonite who has over 20 years of OVBL experience. Bill served as the Braves manager in the 90's and early 2000's and brought Barton their first title in 1996. Bill has a vast knowledge of the game of baseball will be an asset to our franchise and we are excited for his opening day debut.
2011 Barton Braves Roster is Set!
***
The 2011 Barton Braves roster has been finalized! Everybody from the 2010 Back-To-Back OVBL championship team is returning except for Barton's Ace Zac Campbell and long time Brave Charlie Bishop. Zac has decided to take this season off and may return next year while Charlie is away from the area persuing his education. Zac and Charlie will be sorely missed in 2011! Returning from last year is OVBL Manager of the Year and Pitcher Mike Kolvek who logged the most innings of all the Barton pitchers last season. Chris Mcintrye, the Braves lights out closer from last year who posted a 0.93 ERA in 29 innings is back. Pitcher/utility player Mike Muklewicz is back to fill the holes where needed. Doing the catching this year will be longtime Brave Darrin Young who is a wall behind the dish. OVBL Player of the Year and one of the best hitters in the league George Laase is back to man any position in the infield. Long standing OVBL great Joel Atkinson will be holding down first base and looking to add to his 100 career OVBL wins. Shortstop Nick Rocchio is back after batting .391 last season and will be filling in with some time on the mound this year. Third base will be filled by a committee of players: OVBL great Tom Pasco who has a great eye for the ball and the OVBL's most prolific power hitter Chris Leasure who will also see some duty in the outfield and behind the plate. Jonathon Duncan who can play any position needed and adds clutch hits on demand will likely be in the DH spot. The outfield will be manned by: Ryan Kreiter who has a great on-base percentage and outstanding defensive skills; Dustin Hynes who has speed and power and batted .417 last season, Dustin will also see some time behind the plate. Charles "Slingblade" Thompson will be filling in any hole needed. Long time OVBL great Kirk Smolenak will be looking to add to his many great seasons. Collin McCoy, Barton's mid/long relief specialist from 2010 is back. Some new faces on this years roster are: Infielder/outfielder Union Local product Mike Michelli, Outfield Pro-prospect Sean Mahley who went to Cambridge High School and is currently a senior at the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky, lanky Pitcher Ryne Romick who brings some heat from River High School and Akron University, Pitcher from Cambridge High School Jamaal Lowery who played in college at Muscatine in Iowa and is currently Shenadoah's pitching coach, catcher Tanner Werkman who is a freshmen this season at Bethany College, and Pitcher Kevin Snyder.
