John O'Hara

Head Coach

Coach O'Hara graduated from South Hadley High School in 1997, where he was Captain of the Varsity baseball team in both his Junior and Senior seasons. He was selected 1st Team All-Western Mass as a Catcher in both his Jr and Sr years. While attending Plymouth State College, a shoulder injury cut his playing career short. Coach returned home and in 1998 and received his first coaching job. He would coach his Babe Ruth team from 1998-2000. In 1999, Coach O'Hara was hired as an Assistant Coach for the South Hadley High School JV baseball team where he would serve as Assistant until 2001.

While living in South Carolina in 2003, O'Hara was hired as an Assistant JV Coach at North Myrtle Beach High School. In the Spring of 2004, Coach returned to South Hadley as the Interim JV Head Coach finishing the Season 5-1. After finishing the 2005 High School season as Head Coach of the JV team, O'Hara was promoted to Assistant Head Coach for the Varsity team. From 2006-2009 Coach O'Hara would remain in that position until being hired as the Pettengill Insurance Post 260 Legion Head Coach. Coach O'Hara helped build the Legion program by recruiting players from other city and towns within their area. At one point coaching players from four different cities/towns. In five seasons at the helm, Coach O'Hara took his team to the District 2/3 Legion playoffs 3 out 5 seasons.

Leaving Massachusetts and moving to Vermont with his family in 2013, Coach assisted the Hartford Babe Ruth team in 2014 and was hired as an Assistant Coach prior to the 2015 legion season. Coach O'Hara helped lead Post 84 to the Legion State Finals in 2015 and 2017, winning the South Division in 2016 and 2017.

Over the last 10 baseball seasons Coach O'Hara has been instrumental in helping players improve their skills to play baseball at the collegiate level. Over that span, Coach has helped players go onto play at 11 DIII, 6 DII, and 3 DI baseball programs and two former players were taken in the MLB draft.

This will be Coach O'Hara's 1st season as Head Coach for Post 84 as they look to defend their South Division title and compete in the Vermont State Legion Championship for the 4th consecutive year.

Coach O'Hara lives in Hartford, VT with his wife Emilie and their children Brandt, William, Nolan and Elliott.
