Very long day/night! Started an hour early(6pm) because there were 4 features from last week to be run as well! Disappointing ESS sprint car field(16), but a pretty good race won by Jeff Van Dusen. The 2 modified features were won by Lance Willix and Pierre Daganais! Didn't get over until around midnight! The track dryed out early, but once the sun set and it started taking rubber, it was very smooth and super fast!

ESS stands for Empire Super Sprints. 360 cubic inch sprint cars with a wing on the roof and a small one on the front. Actually, if you've seen a World Of Outlaws sprint, these cars are exactly the same except for horsepower! They are based in Syracuse, N.Y.! They also ran Saturday at Brockville(19 sprints) with Tommy Wickum picking up the win! I say 16 is disapointing because in recent years, they've been getting 25 or so up here for races! I guess a few of them went down to Knoxville last week to try to make the nationals and didn't make it back yet, at least that was the reason somebody I was talking to gave! Pierre Daganais. lol! That was the first thing I thought when the Habs signed Pierre Daganais a few years back! The only difference is that the driver is about 50 and about a foot shorter than the hockey player! lol An interesting note about Pierre Daganais(the racer not the hockey player!). He drives one-handed! The reason for this is that his job is a heavy machine operator, and he uses one hand all day at his job, and he feels more comfortable racing that way!

Erin Crocker, who now races in ARCA and has raced in some truck and Busch races, started out in ESS a few years ago!

Are the Sprints part of the weekly show at Cornwall?

No, the ESS only come to Cornwall twice and Brockville once! Brockville also gets the Patriot sprints once. The ESS don't have a home track, but they tour all summer in New York, Penn, Ontario and Quebec!

They race on weekends with with a weekday race being once in a blue moon! They're not professional, though there was a guy a few years ago who raced on the tour who raced sprint cars professionally! He's racing down in the states somewhere now! The drivers who follow the Advance Auto parts Big Block DIRTcar Modified tour are mostly all professionals!

Are the Dirt Modifieds the cars where the driver sits in the center of the car?
Do they run dirt modifieds or dirt late models at Cornwall?

Yeah, the driver sit in the middle of a modified! DIRTcar Modifieds are really strange looking things! I go in the pits sometimes and see them up close! They sure are different! Brockville and Cornwall don't race late models, but Cornwall races Pro Stocks, which are something like a Late Model!
