A few years back, former NHLer Mike Milbury said that we are witnessing the beginning of the "pansification of the NHL"! I kinda laughed at the time, as it sounded kinda funny, but now we are seeing it come to pass! Players are now getting suspended for every little infraction! That is, unless you're a "star" player! Georges Laraque got suspended 5 games for a trip on Niklas Kronwall! Ok, I'm a Habs fan, I don't deny it, but it's a trip whether Laraque plays for Montreal or Timbucktwo! I'd say the same thing if the trip was on a Habs player, I'm just trying to make a point! It's too bad Kronwall got hurt, but that's just one of those freak things! Let's say a guy hooks another player in the midsection, you know, just a regular hooking play that happens a hundred times a week, no malicious entent whatsoever, just trying to hold the guy up a bit! Now let's say the stick just happens to catch the guy the right way and cracks a rib, does that guy get suspended a few games for THAT, an otherwise harmless hook? During last night's game involving Columbus and Montreal, Rick Nash(a star player) checked Travis Moen(non-star) from behind at least just as bad as some of the hits that other players(non-stars) received suspensions for! Everyone knows that if the situation was reversed, Moen would've got at least a couple games out of it, and a penalty, something else Nash didn't receive on the play! Daniel Briere(a second-tier star) got two games for driving Scott Hannon in the face with a cross check! If Laraque or a player of his type had done that to anyone, he would've received alot more than two games, that's for damn sure! If that double-standard remains in the NHL, and the league refuses to penalize the star players, one of these days someone is gonna take the law into their own hands! You figure it will be someone who's career is going nowhere or a third or fourth liner near the end of their career that's sick and tired of watching star players like Ovechkin hit guys from behind and the league look the other way! I don't condone players trying to hurt other plays, and I don't like seeing ANYBODY get hurt, but mark my words, it WILL happen someday! Then, watch the league whine and cry when one of their poster boys gets put on the shelf! You gotta figure for the guy who did it, his suspension will be so long it will involve his great grandkids! Don't get me wrong, every league needs their star athletes, all I'm saying is treat them the same as the others who aren't blessed with as much talent as they are! After all, it takes all kinds of platers to make a team successful! Well, that's my rant for today! I figure I'll get a few doozies in response to this post! In fact, I'll be dissapointed if I don't! Because like I've said many times, it's a free country, people should be able to say what they want!

5 games was a bit much.2 maybe he did stick out his foot and try to trip him u cant dispute that unfortunate he got hurt but thats the way it goes why do the crime if u cant do the time.i can remember a play from the playoffs a few years back when kyle mcclaren i think of the bruins hit zeddy nick with a forarm after he beat him to the outside on a good move.a desperation move by mcclaren knowing he was beat by the habs forward knocking zeddy nick out.he got an indefinte suspension.i think both plays were kind of the same a player gets beat and at the last second tries to get a piece of the guy anyway to not let the opposition get a scoring chance.i think he ended up with 8 games at the start of the next season.heard a few habs fans crying about that hit its a tough game people are going to get hurt if you dont like it turn the channel.thats terrible C1 you picking in burkes son.

I'm not picking on Brendan Burke, but only commenting on the Toronto media Bias! Who are you kidding reider? You'd be the first one with a smart-ass remark if that was a member of the Canadiens front office with a gay kid!

No reider, they're just names that are the frigment of the imagination of a person with two brain cells! Actually, the fact that you can think of thoses kinds of names makes me kind of uneasy! The thing is, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a GM who has a gay kid, with no modification of names or anything else required! There are literally dozens of names of players in the league that can be modified into something creative by yourself! C'mon reider, get those 2 brain cells working and think of some names for other players on other teams! You know, just to show that you're not totally anti-Montreal biased!

Geez reider, I can't believe the league actually suspended Ovechkin for his knee on Gleason! But wait a second, there's more to this than meets the eye! You gotta figure Ov's knee isn't 100% and he'll probably miss a couple games anyway! So they decide to give him a couple games, just to make it appear as though they don't favor their stars! I see right through them!
