I do want to start off by commending and give praise to Mike the Mightey Mites coach. I've heard great reviews from the parents about his discipline, dedication, and love for the sport and his kids. I truly wish more of the coaches would model after him, even some administrators.
GREAT JOB MIKE!!!!
I was told last year the Roselle pop warner was much organized and informative. What in the world happened????? The cheer and football division is receiving information about games, practices, cheer dates, the night before or the day of.
The is truly a break in communication among the Roselle pop warner administration. In regards to Team Moms they are helpful, however there information is just as good as the info they receive from the coaches which is usually last minute as always. The coaches tell the parents they want the kids at the field at a certain time ie 6pm and show up at the field at 6:20pm. What happened to time regulations and teaching kids discipline and the respect of time???
Half the time the coaches or even administrators don't even know where the games a held, time, location, or exact street address. I will be nice and not mention names of the adminstrator that didn't know the location.
I truly feel sorry for the coaches because after a hard evening of practice now the RPW becomes a BABYSITTING division for mommas and poppas that think "ooh I got two hours to run free" and don't pick up there kids in a timely fashion. I mean I've seen little ones like 5yrs old left behind by there mothers and fathers and the coaches running down the field to catch team moms to call the mom or dad. That is RIDICULOUS!!! Does this now clarify for DYFS if the parents don't pick them 1/2-1hr???

As parents we are told to refer to the website for updated info about games and locations.
Well DAMMMMMM!!! the only thing that seems to get regularly updated is pictures and music to the site. How difficult is it to post the new info on the site.
What happened to the cheer sneakers and socks that were ordered since August, the season is pratically over??? During registration, no one seem to know if there is a discount for multiple kids, like the old saying goes " Know one seems to know there A from there elbow"??
What's up with the concession stands??? one of the person workin the stand last Sunday was throwin down on all kinds of food all out in the open, and then had the nerves to say no food left early in the beginning of the game. I wonder if she had to pay for her stuff???
It's understandable that the older divisions practice longer hours and more days a week. But the coaches think the parents are GLORIFIED FOOLS!!!! Not ! You practice our kids like run away slaves and then put "favorite" key players to win the game for the whole game and just make sure that the paper reflects all the kids play. To those coaches who think you dealin with Debbie Dumbs Dumbs we see how you play our kids for a minute towards the end of the quarter. What happened to kids learning and lovin the sport??? It's all about WIN WIN WIN!!! not to mention just shine the spotlight on certain kids.
All the children should get equal play.
RPW is DEAD WRONG IN SO MANY WAYS!!!

This is a piss poor organization!!!! Yall better get your act together.

I do not know who this unhappy mom is, but I have seen similar things to what you have described. I think it is unfortunate that things have been allowed to continue, from bad to worse. I cracked up when I read your comment about the concession stand, because I continued to see the same thing and I also saw where certain kids were allowed to go behind the concession stand and were given free food. I wonder if they were their kids??? Well, mine paid! Another concern is with the Pop Warner Cheerleading Squad, I do not understand with the number of girls involved, why is there not cheerleading representation at every Roselle Pop Warner game? How hard is it to spread these girls out???? Now that school has started and the season has changed (getting dark earlier) why can't all of the coaches stick to the 8:00 ending. Parents arrive at 7:55 for an 8:00 ending and are made to wait as late as 8:30 to 8:40 at night. This is ridiculous especially since many of the kids have not eaten or done their homework because of their commitment to the Pop Warner football team. This puts a strain on parents who have more than one child and are arriving after working all day. Why are we treating Roselle Pop Warner football as if it is pro ball??????? Lastly, what happened to the maintenance of Sylvester Land Field? The kids are practicing on geese and dog pop, how disgusting is that?????

I'm disgusted at the behavior of the cheer and football coaches. I agree with the unhappy parent, RPW is so last minute with their information about football games and where the cheerleaders will cheer. I'm appauld with the fact they took money for cheer socks and gave the girls IRREGULAR walmart socks.
I've brought my concerns, and there are more upset moms and dads, and yes IT DOES FALL ON DEAF EARS, or you must be in the in crowd to get your suggestions heard and acted upon.
It's one thing to bring it up, however ACTIONS from RPW would speak louder than words!
RPW wake up and let the truth be told!

To the comment written by Angry Parent, that sounds sooooooooooooo cliche like a politician. "If we work together we can make a change". It's obvious based on the responses that's not happen. It's sooooo sad the football is for the kids. RPW looks like it's turnin into a reality show like our council team.
IT'S A SHAME!

I am so glad to hear all of you people complaining about the entire organization, but have you volunteered YOUR time??? I applaud ALL the coaches and the board for taking time out of their schedules to VOLUNTEER and mentor your children. This is time that these volunteers are taking away from their families to try to help the children of our town. As with any organization, there will be flaws and issues, but with the help of the parents, in a parent run organization, maybe some of these issues can be resolved. Of course, there will be some issues that are not resolved and not ever will everyone be happy or satisfied with any organization, but if these people were not volunteering their time, what would YOUR children be doing? The same things that go on in Roselle go on in Linden, Elizabeth, Cranford and any other town that has a parent run organization.

What I see is some of these children in our town who may not otherwise have any type of positive guidance or role models in their lives possibly having one in their coaches. There are a lot of people involved in the organization and there is also a lot of behind the scenes things that need to be done that most people don't know about yet the organization still has to be run. There have been times when I am at the games and the announcer practically has to beg for someone to do the chains so the game can start. With the number of children in the organization, one should not constantly have to see the same faces doing everything. I have also seen people who have no children in the organization volunteering and supporting the children because their parents don't even come out to watch their children play or cheer. How sad is it that our stands aren't even halfway filled for OUR children??? In my opinion, the negativity should be placed on the people who don't even support their own children by even attending a game and not directed at the people who do volunteer. This doesn't only apply to RPW but stretches through to the high school as well. I try to attend and support all the youth based organizations in this town even if I don't have any children in the programs. So am I just continuosly enabling the deadbeat parents by being there to cheer your children on???

Negativity breeds negativity, but CONSTRUCTIVE criticism can emit positive results. Maybe that should be tried sometimes.

Very well said Roselle Resident and thank you.

To Unhappy Parent. Everyone that volunteers is not a part of the "In Crowd" many are just parents that want to make a difference in there community and are doing their best to do so.

You might want to take another look at the situation with a different eye...

As a parent who is volunteering and coaching I think that communication is key in any organization. SO I agree to disagree with UNHAPPY PARENT & OMG!!

I can say this for cheer that as a courtesy I provide directions and dates because I’ve already provided a schedule of all games, cheer competition my parents/girls in the beginning of the season (because I like you in the past had an issue with that so what did I do, created a solution). The directions are also available on njpw.org. Parents are resourceful enough in finding out how to get to everything else and when they want to show up I don’t think it’s fair to blame anyone for this. NOW if you didn’t get a schedule, log in to get a schedule is that on you or the organization? Did you want to volunteer to help update the website? I would if I knew how. How about you?

I do agree with you on the coaches showing up late HOWEVER keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have families, jobs, etc so 6pm is a great goal as a start time but if there is traffic, etc then we will be late. Have you ever asked if you could start to warm the kids up with stretching until the coach arrives? If you were a parent on my squad, I personally would appreciate the help.

I agree it has been a babysitting service. Try coaching and having children in the program where you are late picking your OWN kids up because you are waiting on parents to come pick theirs up. Yes it is ridiculous.

Some of the other things you commented on I cannot address, just have no clue about them.

Number of girls involved. RPW has cheer on every level except Junior Midget. There are minimum of 6 and up to 16 per squad. The girls are spread out so not sure what you are talking about. They range from Flag to Midget. The girls have been at every game.

Ending at 8pm. I try to end but sometimes we need to go over things and SOMETIMES I’m waiting on parents who “forgot” to pick their children up at 8pm but could drop them off at 520pm when practice starts at 6pm because they had things to do

Geese and Dog pop-have you contacted the borough, because that is who is leasing the field. Anytime I had an issue that is what I’ve done. Do you need the phone number?908 245 5600 please call Im sure the kids would appreciate it.

In order for us to be a “business” run successful organization more parents need to volunteer the board is open as to the help but parents need to be consistent and positive. When there are mandatory parent meetings, less than half of the parents show up, at the games HOME at that, parents don’t show up. Until we realize that this is a community organization it will continue to be run the same way. WE have to all get together, but WE also have to get past the mentality that we don’t need everyone’s help, that parents shouldn’t come onto the field because in some of the other organizations where the kids are winning to Nationals, where they have more scholars, where they have more equipment/training, it’s all of the parents helping. There is no confusion regarding 2hours of volunteer time. So yes some changes need to be made, but why not develop a list, why not attend the meetings and why not run for office, coach, be a team mom, etc.

TRUST ME I know it’s frustrating and I don’t kiss anyone’s A, I’m not part of the In-Crowd nor do I care to be, I’m out there for my kids because they are having fun and as a parent that is what it is about. Could things be done better? Of course always room for improvement.

Perhaps you could help to organize a mandatory parent meeting on all levels where parents would show up to get the organization in tip top shape?? I think at this point most volunteers are tired, I’ve become frustrated with lack of support for the kids and I’ve even seen kids look in the stands for parents that are nowhere to be found.

Have you ever looked in the eyes of a child that was disappointed or they teared up because the parent wasn’t there and the coach was? Have you asked any kids how they are doing in school? Have you seen their parents and said see you at the next game? Have you volunteered a home cooked meal?

Because most of us that volunteer to coach haven’t eaten when we arrive to coach, most of our children haven’t eaten, completed homework either but we aren’t there for just our kids, we are there for yours too… For some of these kids RPW Cheer and Football is all that they have so instead of tearing down what may not be the best ran organization, share some tips that can help get it together and I’ll be more than happy to be a part of. But until you are out there Sunday thru Friday 2+hours a day please don’t tell me what a strain you have arriving after work all day dropping your children off and picking them up at 8pm.

Just a coaches thoughts

Cheer coach,
Even though you are lengthy with your response, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT !!!!! You made a lot of assumptions and they are all wrong. I am one of the parents that have volunteered, picked my kid up on time, waited patiently for you coaches to release the kids, spent every weekend in those stands at the games and yes PAID for food at the concession stands. When I mentioned a lack of cheereleading representation that is a fact that eveyone can see. I even inquired about this and was told from one of you cheer coaches that you alternate games and can't have cheerleaders at every game. Also, how do you explain the season being over for the cheerleaders while the football teams are still having playoff games. Shame on you for defending the substandard program that our children are subjected to. I have the solution to this and to share it with you, I WILL NOT SUBJECT MY CHILD TO ANOTHER YEAR OF THIS, PERHAPS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER THE SAME

And any other organization that you run to with that same NEGATIVE attitude, you will get the same NEGATIVE results. Running away from the problem is not a solution and doesn't teach your children to fight for something "better". What kind of example are you setting for your children?

what level is your child because at last night's JRPW game we had cheerleaders out there. So perhaps it is your level and for that I do agree and it is ashame. Like I said I agree to disagree and could only speak on what I know of.

I know that I am out there and I completely understand where you are coming from but until we all pull together not much else that we can do but vent

To Unhappy Parent:

Its disheartening to hear that you feel that your only recourse is to remove your child from the program.

In reading your most recent comments, it appears that there is a lot of confusion concerning cheer.

I can only assume that because you stated that your coach told you that the girls could only cheer for one team on at a game that the cheerleader is a flag. If this is true then what your coach stated is true. Though we have a team A and B. We are alotted only 1 set of cheerleaders per level and therefore our flag girls rotate on game day.

The comment concerning the season being over for cheer is not true. As stated in an earlier reply the girls cheered at the Playoffs last night and will continue to represent our boys until the entire season ends. But for flag because they are our babies we do make special alotments like not requiring them to come out in bad weather.

The flag cheerleaders have not been practicing because our football season has ended and they know the cheers but will be on the field for the Flagathon at the end of the month.

Our competitive levels continue to practice because they are preparing for the Regionals and Garden State Competitions.

Good Luck in whatever you should decide to do with your child but keep in mind that no matter where you go unless you keep an open mind when you recieve a response you will never be content.
