Paul Swick Memorial Softball Tournament
May 9, 2006 - --
The volunteers who were trying to put together the softball tournament for May 13 informed me today that they could not make it happen and there will not be any games this Saturday.

The City of Victorville will take over and offer a tournament to raise funds for the Swick family on Saturday, June 3. First games at 8:30 am.

We will take the first 8 teams and charge a minimum $150 donation per team. All of the money will go to the family. Here's how we'll do it. It We will take both coed and men's teams. It will be a 1-pitch game for men, and a 2-pitch game for women. If two men's teams play each other, we'll use normal rules and 12 inch balls, however, if a coed team plays, all men will hit a 16 inch ball for their one pitch, and women will hit a normal 12 inch ball for their two pitches.

Any batting order is ok, you don't have to separate the men and women.

All games will be 7 innings.

To get the most money to the family, the city will donate the use of the fields, field labor, and balls. We will not hire umpires, we'll either use volunteers or you'll call your own.

You will need to turn in a team registration form at Hook by May 26. The first 8 teams in will play. Collect cash only and bring it to the field on Saturday morning. If you take a spot in the 8-team field you will be expeced to honor your commitment.

Here's the teams as they sign-up.
(as of May 18)
Team Name Registration Date
1. Fly Right
2. Wheels of Steel
3. Sonshine Autobody
4. Stealth Builders Bombers

We have 4 teams so the tournament's a go. Right now the city is putting it together, but we are looking for an official volunteer to help run the tournament because most of the city staff is working the swim fair that Saturday.
