please note regarding officials what you state is fine if the refs are calling it close but what about if they are not calling it then instead of a player backing off to adjust to the ref the oppisite happens and then serious injury could result. as in your example a basketball ref is letting fouls go uncalled a player will then know he can get away with things. a refs job is to control the game and you are correct the players should adjust to the ref but the city should also make sure the ref is doing the proper job so just because a ref thinks there was no harm in a foul does not mean it shouldn't be called even more so in contact sports since those calls make the game safer in the long run i feel its the non calls that cause the most arguments.

There is ALWAYS going to be a difference of opinion about officiating. It happens in every league, pee wee to pros. Either it's they are not calling enough fouls or they are calling too many, but complaining and cussing about most calls will only get you ejected. Besides, losing your cool and using bad language is not going to prove a point. Call me if you'd like to discuss this further.

my main concern is someone getting hurt because they think they can get away with fouling especially away from the ball since the refs seem to follow the ball and not focus on a certian area of the floor

you also have to remember that basketball is a non contact sport that is it's supposed to be even though its become more of a contact sport

Of course, you are both right. It would be better to have a friendly chat before the game stating that you have no problem with the ref calling a tight game so no one gets hurt. If you wait until people are upset, it's too late.
