I think there may be hope for the kids that currently play to increase the level of popularity here. Overtime, the numbers increase for thoughs that play, and as long as someone is there to keep their interest and help it grow, I think the sport will gain popularity over a longer period of time. It's not going to be overnight. I think that the kids now are going to have the bigger influence than Beckham.

If anything Beckham will open the eyes to the outsiders looking in, not so much here in the States. He may influence more international players to consider the MLS and U.S. soccer, but that big contract is not going to be avalible to all of them. For that reason I think it will keep the players from signing. They aren't going to walk away from their current situation for this, when there is no guarantee

Bottom line, Beckham is not going to have the influence that the league is hoping for. If anything we will see more international players that are considered past their prime that may consider U.S. soccer. Then again, why would they after getting having the large contracts that they make now.

During the Galaxy game there was an interesting stat that was given. It was America has the highest amount of kids enrolled in soccer at 4 million.
Like Cowboy said America doesn't have the passion for futbol has other countries do but, Beckman has already made an impact. The Home Depot Center was sold out yesterday, that was probably the first time that that has happened.
The effect of Beckman on America we may not see the right away.
One nice about Beckman is all the great soccer highlights that have been on T.V.

I agree with motorcity. I don't think that I'll ever see Soccer surpass Baseball, football or basketball in my lifetime, but I do think that it will, at least, start getting mentioned in the same paragraph more often, and if the NBA doesn't get it's act together, people will continue to turn it off in droves.

Your probably right Mounties1. This may date me but the whole thing looks just like what we went through in the 70s when Pele came to New York. Maybe somebody learned how to bring it up to speed with the othr sports. Anyway, thank God for MLS and TiVo, things we didn't have back then.
