"Right now about 85 percent of our teams register as lower teams. That's not right. We have tried to make incentives to have teams register as middle and upper teams, but most teams still go with lower."

Regarding your lower division registration problem: does leaguelineup have a way to do player rankings? Maybe if the upper division players were ranked, you could begin to deal with this issue. It won't work to go by team names, the actual players who are upper division need a ranking.

I suppose you could still allow teams 1 or 2 upper division players on a middle team, but there should be a cap on it.

Players could volunteer to be ranked, ranked by coaches, ranked by umpires or league directors as needed, or by participation on championship upper/middle caliber teams. Players could also be ranked middle or upper for hitting HRs.

I think that even though homeruns are not the only way to determine player ability, it is, at least, a way to determine that some players are not a lower league player.

I will tell the umps to start marking homeruns on the score card and we'll see where that takes us. At the minimum, it might be fun to have a leader board!
