Pirates advance

A great playoff game in 100 degree heat at S. Pasadena High saw the upstart Stallions race out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the 2nd thanks to some timely hitting. The Pirates battled back with 5 in the 2nd with some aggressive base running followed by 4 in the 3rd. The Stallions answered with a 3 run bomb from Martin Campbell in the top of the 6th to cut the Pirate lead to one at 10-9 before some timely bunts from Jerry Whitaker and Tom Kopp drove in 2 and 3 runs respectively enabling 3 Pirate runs in the 6th and 4 more in the 7th including a 2 out double from Emilio Lozano for the final 2 Pirate runs. Scott Disharoon got the win with 5 solid innings in relief. The Pirate offense was helped by 2 hits each from Mike Pedote, Tom Kopp and Robert Reeves. The defensive play of the game was turned in by Augie Alonso who made a diving stop to his right deep in the hole and threw a strike to first for the out robbing the Stallion batter of a base hit to close the 7th inning and Augie also threw a runner out at the plate in the 9th. Great game all around and a great effort from the Stallions to close their season. The Pirates advance to the championship game against the Creoles.
