Arakawa complete game leads Sidewinders to victory.
Sidewinders Kaz Arakawa hurled a complete game only allowing a 9th inning run to lead the Sidewinders to victory. Kaz was throwing strikes and the Sidewinders were playing solid defense all day. The Sidewinders only scored 2 runs off of Squid starter Mike Bodlovich, who also threw a complete game.
The Sidewinders scored a run in the 4th as Danny White walked, stole 2nd, went to 3rd on a ground-out, and then scored as the catcher had to record the out at 1st on a strikeout...man to have speed. Then in the 8th, the Sidewinders Blake Taylor got on base on an error, went to 2nd on a Bill Burns SAC and scored on a big 2-out single by Ethan Wolferman. In the top of the 9th, the Sidewinders had a chance to break the game open, but a line drive to left center turned into an inning ending DP to keep the game at 2-0. So the Squid had hope, and they went right to work in the 9th. Eddie Alfano laced a single to RF, which was followed by a Brad Winkeljohn single, followed by a walk. Now the bases were loaded with no outs and Bryan Jones got his 2nd hit (sharp single to LF) of the day to bring the score to 2-1, still bases loaded, no outs. It did not look good for the Sidewinders at this point. But "magic man" Arakawa induced a fly ball to leftfielder Ethan Wolferman, who made the catch and threw a strike to home to get the tagging runner; 2 outs. Still, the Squid had 2 runners on and a very tough DJ Chomyk coming up. He hit a rocket, but right at the Sidewinders rightfielder for the game ending out. A great game by both teams, especially the pitchers .... Kaz Arakawa and Mike Bodlovich.
