Angels Win Ugly to Advance
It looked like a long day as Angels starter Jess Whitehill gave up 3 runs in the first, throwing 35 pitches on a hot and muggy morning in Culver City. The Grays plated single runs in the second and third to build up a 4-1 lead that looked pretty significant, but the Angels scored 7 in the fourth to jump ahead 9-5. Whitehill gave back 3 to start the fifth and survived a knockout blow by getting Ruiz to line into a double play to end the inning. Billy Johnson came into pitch in the sixth and bobbed and weaved his way through 2 scoreless innings for the save, despite loading the bases with one out in the 6th and having runners at second and third with no outs in the 7th before getting three straight outs to keep it close. Eric Castro starred at the plate, (4-5 with a double) as did Dave Loyola who was 3-4 with 2 rbi, ending the game with a booming 2 run homer to left. This was a hard fought game as tempers flared in the heat of the sun and the heat of battle. Congrats to the Grays on a very good season.
