Colt .45s Defeat Stars 7 - 3
The Colt .45s finally win their first post season game (in spring/summer) in four years, by defeating last year's champs the Hollywood Stars.
The Stars got on the board first, with a couple runs in the second, via three consecutive singles. The 45s answered back in their half, thanks to some clutch two out hitting by Ernie Johnson and Dave Noll. The Colts added three more in the fourth, with a bevy of singles and some stolen bases, putting pressure on the Stars defense. The 45s added two more and that was 'all she wrote' for the Stars.
Jeremy Umland was his usual self for the Stars, keeping the 45s bats off balance, but his defense was a little sloppy. Dave Noll started and did a fine job (4 2/3 IP, 2ER) before yeilding to Ernie Johnson, who kept the Stars at bay, giving up only one run in three and two thirds. Jade Devitt also made a couple outstanding catches in center, thwarting a couple would be Stars' rallies.
The 45s offense came from the middle of the lineup as Garrett Ray, Shawn Chou and Ernie Johnson played a part in scoring or driving in all the Colts runs.
Great team chemistry today as everyone contributed, either on the field or off.
Hats off to the Stars, who always gave the 45s a great game. Mel Levine and his team are a good team and a great bunch of guys. See you next year.
