Angels Advance to Semi's
The Angels and Pirates went back and forth in the first 4 frames. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the Angels scored 3 on an error, hbp, sac bunt, walk and rbi singles by Blakey and Acevedo. The Pirates came back with 2 in the top of the sixth to narrow the Angels lead to 5-4, where it stayed through the 7th and 8th. With Lorenzo Ramos still on the mound to open the ninth, the Pirates loaded the bases with 2 outs, bringing up Pirates pitcher Rich Brito, who flied to center for the final out. On a day where the heart of the Angels line-up went a combined 0-13, the top and bottom of the order came through big time to produce just enough runs to win it. Lorenzo Ramos, without his best stuff, went the distance and on offense, lead off hitter Edwin Bonilla was 3-4 (rbi) and 2 hole hitter Steve Acevedo was 2-4, including the game winning 2 run single.
For the Pirates, Rich Brito went the distance, giving up only 7 hits. This first round playoff game was all that was expected and more.
