A True Playoff Game Ends After 11

The Bandits and Stars battled for 11 innings with the Bandits finally taking and holding the lead in the 11th to win the semi-final game. The Stars Jeremy Umland went toe to toe with the Bandits Jeff Gould as Umland went 9 innings and Gould 8 and the game tied 4 - 4 after both were gone. Gould allowed 6 hits in his 8 innings but walked 2 in the first which opened the door to 2 unearned runs in the first due to an error. Umland was equally impressive going a solid 9 and striking out 6 along the way. Jerry Whitaker got the win as he threw the final 3 and kept the Stars in check until the Bandits could eek out 2 in the 11th. Jeff Wells came up big with 2 hits and 3 RBIs while Whitaker drilled a triple in the 11th to bring in the 6th run and help his own cause. The Stars never gave up as they came to the plate in the bottom of the 11th and trailing by 2. With 2 outs and no one on base, they rattled off three straight singles to put the tying run on 2nd. The game ended as the ageless Mark Gorman made the web gem of the day diving for a ground ball up the middle and flipping it to ss Kevin Bronson to end the game. A terrific game by the #2 and #3 teams and kudos to all. On to the championship for the Banditos.
