Jones tough on hill to lead the Mudcats to victory!
Mudcats starter Ben Jones hurled a 6-hit complete game to pick up the victory. Both teams pitched well and played flawless defense, but the Mudcats got two huge breaks to eke out the win. The Hard Knocks scored their lone run in the 1st as lead off hitter Evan Young beat out an infield hit, stole 2nd and scored on a David Mair single. The Mudcats tied the game in the 5th as Jamil Mamdani doubled, and Ben Agatep laced a 2-out single to score him. In the 7th Mamdani walked with 2 outs and then (Big break #1) Michael Green hit a line shot to RF which took a crazy high hop over the right-fielders head for a triple to give the 'cats a 2-1 lead. The Hard Knocks kept fighting and in the top of the 9th, Brandon Kaufman led off with a triple to put the tying run at 3rd with no outs. Up stepped Kevin Carlos with the Mudcats infield pulled in ... (Big break #2) .... Carlos hits a rocket line shot, but right to the shortstop who then throws to 3rd to double off the runner and erase the threat. Next HK makes out, and the Mudcats advance to the Championship. Both teams played a very good game. For the Hard Knocks, starter Matt Garner threw 5 good innings, only allowing 1 run and thirdbaseman Marshall Martin made numerous outstanding plays.
