Bruins Power Past Bucs
After winning two different one-run games in the 9th and 10th innings during the regular season, the Bruins came into the playoff game well aware of how dangerous the 8th seed Bucs could be. The first two innings played out much like the first two games, with neither side doing any damage. Sparked by Elliot Reinfeld's leadoff single in the bottom of the third, the Bruin bats came to life and plated 7 runs on 5 hits, a walk, and a hard hit ground ball error by the solid Bucs defense. That was all Dave "Cy Young" Noll needed, as he cruised through 7 shutout innings en route to his 14th win of the season. Reinfeld added two more hits and a couple RBIs to go along with spectacular play around the 1B bag, turning a number of iffy throws into outs. Bruin reliever Bill Brown worked two perfect innings to secure the win, while leadoff hitter Jade Devitt moved up from his usual 3 spot and continued his hot hitting, reaching base 5 times (2-3, 2BB, HBP) and scoring twice. Jesus Cabrera (2 2Bs) and Robert Lewis (3 runs) each added 3 hits. Hats off to a good Bucs team that battled to the final out and could have easily finished the regular season in the top half of the division had a few bounces gone their way.
