Mudcats win a close one.
Pitching was dominant today, as the Mudcats David White (6 2/3 - 2 runs) and Kaz Arakawa (2 1/3 shutout relief) barely bested the Mariners Nick Satyal and Jordan Shulman.
The Mariners scored first (only runs) in the 3rd as Greg Burke reached on a FC, stole 2nd and scored on a double by Nicko Burnett. Then Burnett scored on a flubbed 3rd strike throw down to 1B. The Mudcats came back to score a run in the 4th as Chris Healey singled, took 2nd on a WP, stole 3rd and then scored on a dribbler in front of the plate. The Mudcats took the lead in the 5th as Derek Thiegles singled, took 2nd on a PB and then scored on a Ethan Wolferman bloop single to RF. After a walk to Steve Rombro, Wolferman stole 3rd base and then scored on a Dave Becker SF. The Mariners had the bases loaded in the 7th, but Arakawa came in the strike out the Mariner batter. And then in the 9th, the Mariners got the first two runners on and called for a sacrifice bunt. However, the bunt was a little bit too hard and firstbaseman Luke Lombardi threw a dart to 3rd to get the lead runner. The next batter grounded to SS, and with the go-ahead run on 2nd base, the Mariners batter popped up to end a close one. Good game by two good teams.
