Brewers Beat Bruins In Tough 8-7 Battle
The Bruins were sailing along with a commanding 5-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning. But then the Brewers' bats came alive, with a big 6-run sixth inning to take the lead, 6-5. The Bruins retook the lead, 7-6, with two runs in the top of the seventh. The Brewers answered with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a Carlos Garcia double, to make it 8-7. The Bruins' last chance in the top of the 9th came with a one-out single. The runner tried to move into scoring position with an attempted steal of second base...but Chris Gauthier threw a laser to catch the speedy runner for the second out.
The Bruins were determined challengers, but the Brewers got contributions from every player to earn a ticket to the Championship Game. Raul Verdecia led the Brewers offense with a perfect 3-3 day. Mark Behn, Eric Cain and Paul Potvin had two hits each. Garcia had 3 RBIs, and KC Kasin had 2 RBIs. Scott Bailey held the Bruins' strong lineup scoreless over the final 2-2/3 innings for the win.
Hats off to the Bruins for giving the Brewers a hard-fought, well-played game.
