Yanks tame Tigers

The Yankees jumped out to a quick three run lead in the top of the first with a two-run single from Taylor Shoop followed by another rbi single from Nestor Martinez. The Tigers answered back in the second with three of their own to knot the game at 3-3. The pitchers settled down and runs were hard to come by.
The Yanks scraped together the go-ahead run in the fourth without the advantage of a hit. The Yankees added an insurance run in the seventh when the Tigers walked leadoff batter Chris Powell with the bases loaded.
It was 5-3. In the 8th "Quiet" Nolan Wyatt doubled in a run to narrow the score to 5-4. Some good Yankees defense in the ninth preserved the victory for the Yankees 5-4.
Starting pitcher and two-time Cy Young award winner Scott Singleton went seven innings, striking out 10.
