Squires get hot; Drake throws a gem...
Scott Drake throws six scoreless innings, while the Squires' bats finally wake up in a victory at Grant High School. The Royals had an up-and-down day in the field, while the Squires played well behind an inspired pitching performance. The Royals were, however, able to pull together and plate a few runs at the eleventh hour, creating a scare, but they just ran out of time and into Jonathan Oller's fastball barrage to close the contest.
Highlights came from Mike Saul, who "Hulk-smashed" three singles, while Vinnie Consolo went 3-4 before taking off his shirt. Tom Conroy continued his torrid RBI binge, plating 4 runners. Also, Jonathan Lane came on in a pinch-hit effort in the 6th, and hit one out to right-center that might still be orbiting were it not for the large tree across the street.
All in all, a great game played by both teams...
