West Allegheny Slow Pitch Tryouts for Varsity/Jr Varsity/Jr High

The West Allegheny Slow Pitch Softball Club is conducting tryouts for fall softball in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League (WPISL). Tryouts will be held August 9th at 7pm (Rain Date or makeup date August 10th 7pm) at Oakdale Boro Park in Oakdale PA.

Tryouts are for girls entering 7th-12th grade who attend the West Allegheny school district. The club plays at 3 levels , Varsity, (grades 9-12) , JV (grades 9-11), and Junior High (grades 7-9). Games are played on Saturday and Sunday which start in early September thru the end of October. Each game is a double header usually playing 14 games, with playoffs for the Varsity only.

Some of the schools involved are Montour, Fort Cherry, Bethel Park, NA, Seneca Valley, Shaler, Fox Chapel, North Hills, etc. This is a highly competitive league which produces some great softball at a tournament level of play. This sport is now recognized by the West Allegheny School District.  West Allegheny won the Varsity championship in 2009 in WA’s first season and was runner up in 2014 and took 1st place in Jr. High play in 2011 and 2012.

Oakdale signups for fall ball for t-ball, boys ages 8U, 10U, 12U, and Pony League, and girls ages 8u, 10U slow, 10u fast, 12u slow, 12u fast are due by 8/14/15 by completing the attached registration form and paying at your 1st practice.  Scan or take a pic of the form and email it to oakdaleyouthleague@yahoo.com.  If we do not receive an email you will not be registered to play

All players must signup in their age group for next year, no exceptions.  Exceptions only granted if there is not a team at lower age group or the board decides to move players due to numbers at age groups.

Beginning Monday July 6 through Monday July 13 2015 the Oakdale Youth League will be hosting a 12U tournament at the Oakdale Boro Field. This tournament is a benefit for our very own Rick Nolan, youth league equipment manager, and 12 u Manager. Rick has been an Oakdale resident and avid supporter of our youth program for 10+ years. He is currently undergoing treatment for Leukemia and as a community we would like to rally around Rick and his family and show our support to our friend when he needs us most. Please consider stopping down to the Boro field to show your support for our youth league and for Rick. If you are able to volunteer some time on field prep or working the concession stand, please let us know and we will slot you where you are needed. Also, there is nothing better than bringing the family down to enjoy your favorite concession snacks, while watching a ball game. All volunteer efforts and monies spent will go toward our youth and Rick!! We are hopeful for great weather and looking forward to seeing you there!!  

Congratulations Oakdale 10U tournament team CHAMPIONS of the Carnegie Tournament.  Oakdale went 2-1 in pool play beating Carnegie and Upper St Clair and losing to Ingomar.  In the playoff round Oakdale as the #3 seed beat Burgettstown 4-1 in the qtr finals, Ingomar 2-1 in the semi finals and beat Scott Twp in the championship game 3-2.  

Congratulations Oakdale 12U tournament team CHAMPIONS of the Bethel Park Tournament.  In the 10 team tournament Oakdale went 3-1 in pool play to get the #1 seed in their bracket.  In the playoffs, Oakdale beat a tough Baldwin team 23-21 in the semi-finals.  In the Championship game little Oakdale beat mighty Bethel Park 19-14 to win the tournament.  

Congratulations Oakdale 15U tournament team CHAMPIONS of the Mt Lebonan Tournament.  In pool play Oakdale went 3-1 to secure the #2 seed for the playoff round.  Oakdale lost game 1 to Penn Trafford 11-9, and then went on a roll to defeat Peters Township 7-0, Mt Lebonan Gold team 17-1, and Mt Lebonan Blue team 15-14 in 8 innings.  In the semi finals Oakdale trailed 6-1 in the 5th inning before rallying to an 11-7 win,  In the championship game Oakdale avenged the earlier tournament pool play loss by defeating #1 seed Penn Trafford 18-5.  

Congratulations Oakdale 15U tournament team CHAMPIONS of the Beechview Tournament.  In the 8 team double elimination tournament Oakdale went undefeated beating Magee, Etna, and Penn Trafford, then beating Penn Trafford in the Championship game 20-6.  

Congratulations to Oakdale Ballas 8U team on winning the 19 team end of season tournament for 8U softball in the CVC.  Oakdale Ballas defeated Scott Twp in the sweet 16 round and Collier in the elite 8 round.  In the final four semi-final game Oakdale came from 2 behind in the final at bat to beat North Fayette.  In the championship Oakdale defeated previously undefeated FIndlay 8-7 in extra innings.  

Congratulations Oakdale 18U tournament team Runner-up in the Kennedy Tournament.  Oakdale went 1-2 in pool play defeating Cranberry Twp and then losing to Baldwin and Robinson who both went undefeated in pool play.  Oakdale in the playoff round beat Cranberry 8-3, and then upset previously unbeaten Baldwin 9-3 in the semi finals.  Oakdale lost in the Championship game to unbeaten Robinson 11-10 on the final at bat.     

A 10U tourney team team consisting of 75% Oakdale players was runner-up in the 8 team double elimination Beechview Tournament.  After losing badly in game 1 to BAGAA and falling into the losers bracket, the team fought back and beat South Fayette, Mt Washington and then in the semi finals pulled off a revenge victory against the BAGAA team that beat them earlier.  The team lost in the championship to Mt Lebo.

The Oakdale Youth League's annual year end picnic is scheduled for Sunday August 23rd starting at noon at Oakdale Boro Park. The league will supply the main dish and beverages and asks everyone to bring a side dish or dessert. There will be a skills competition for each age group for prizes and an egg toss competition The picnic will hold a Chinese raffle and 50/50 drawing.  Hoodies will be handed out to all players at 4:30, none will be handed out earlier.

Oakdale Youth League players are encouraged to come and join in the annual Oakdale Memorial Day Parade by meeting at Sils's at 9:30am on Monday May 25th. Candy will be provided to distribute to the crowd as we walk in the parade.

Please support our 8th annual Spaghetti Dinner/Bake Sale Fundraiser, which will be held Friday March 27th from 4pm - 8pm for a very inexpensive cost of $8 for adults and $5 for children (10 & under). Takeout will be available. Donated bake goods will be for sale and a Chinese auction/door prizes will be available.

Fundraisers such as this allow us to continue to have the low registration costs and distribute free hoodies every three years to all players. Feel free to forward this and tell your family, friends, and neighbors to come support the Oakdale Youth League.

There will be three Baseball Camps Sponsored by the WA Baseball Boosters for youth ages 6-13 at the West Allegheny High School Gym. The camp will be run by Head Coach Bryan Cornell and the West Allegheny Coaching Staff and players. Campers will be grouped according to age.

Hitting Camp: Saturday, March 7, 2015 (9:00-1:00)
Pitching/Throwing Camp: Saturday, March 21, 2015 (9:00-1:00)
Fielding Camp: Saturday, March 28, 2015 (9:00-1:00)

Camp Cost:
The cost of each camp will be $40 per camper. If you pre-register for all three camps before Saturday, February 28, the cost will be $100 for all three camps. I encourage all to sign up early because spots are limited.

If you cannot attend registration you may also register via mail by printing a registration form and sending a check payable to OYL to 607 1st Street, Oakdale, PA 15071. Registration is due by the end of February.

Fundraiser ticket money is due at registration.  Each family will pay $50 for 5 raffle tickets.  When you sell the tickets you get your money back to keep and only need to turn in the ticket stubs.
