Tips for all
(provided by Stephen Dugal)
The most important tip I can give for coaches who coach youth football is to remember why your doing what your doing. That is to teach the fundamentals of good football technique and as important be a solid role model. Good coaching.
They're Only Kids!
(provided by Anonymous)
Remember they're only kids and there are no contracts or bonuses. Teach the kids That it takes hard work and discipline to be the best and not screaming and whining. Teach them team work and in all that they do, give there all.
Linebackers
(provided by Pete Stanish)
Linebackers: Don't always have to be your best athlete but must be smart, agile and willing to put it all on the line every play. They must possess an extra ability to find the ball!
Defensive Line
(provided by Roy C. Padrick)
It is very important for young players, especially 6-10, that footwork is taught extensively. Most injuries happen to children's ankles on the offensive and defensive lines. If the child maintains good foot position and activity, he will avoid a great deal of trouble.
First, it's very important that the child keep his feet moving at all times until the whistle blows. A moving target is the hardest to catch, so if the foot is in motion, it makes it impossible to be stepped on or rolled over. A good drill to use is the high step drill or running in place. It's also important the younger kids (6-8) try not to cross their feet too much when moving. This causes more trips and sprains then necessary and their young age and talent levels do not warrant sophisticated foot movement.
