STANDARDS & POLICIES

29 Palms High School 2010 Track & Field

PRACTICES
All athletes are expected to make ALL practices.
Practices are held from 2:00-4:00 at the high school track.
If you are a thrower, you will meet IMMEDIATELY after school at the throwing rings.
Runners head get on blocks, and jumpers get to the jump pit.
Combined team exercises begin at 2:35!
Many athletes will choose to train beyond the scheduled end of practice time.
Three (3) unexcused absences will result in DISMISSAL from the program.

Attending practice is not enough. All athletes are expected to WORK HARD to push themselves to complete their workouts. 3 incomplete workouts are equivalent to an unexcused absence.

CONDITIONING PRACTICES
The first informational meeting was held on November 18, 2009. Information was collected and given out about the start of our season. The track and field season began on Monday, January 11th @ 2:00pm. We just completed our ____ week of practice. It was explained during the informational meeting that only winter-sport athletes would be excused from beginning practices on January 11th. For everyone else this set of conditioning practices were MANDATORY. Incoming winter sport athletes will be phased into our practices with their own set of conditioning standards. Attendance at these practices will be a major factor in determining borderline cases for a VARSITY LETTER.

BE PREPARED
Your athlete needs to come prepared to school every day with their track gear.
We've discussed track bags that need to have, athletic shorts, t-shirt, running shoes, empty water bottle (can be filled prior to practice). Track bags should also have sweats/sweatshirt or long sleeve shirt. Locker room access is limited due to the nature of different practice ending times for athletes and athletes must understand that there will be NO LOCKER ROOM ACCESS after practices.

MEETS
All eligible athletes are expected to attend ALL MEETS they qualify for.
Arrangements can be made for other obligations (SAT, ACT testing, funeral, etc) PRIOR to the meet day. A missed meet (without prior timely notification to the coaching staff) may result in dismissal from the team. In regards to pre/post-competition transportation... not having your child dropped off and picked up promptly may result in dismissal from team.

LETTERING POLICY
Assuming your practice attendance and participation are in good standing, you must compete in at least 50% of the regular season Varsity meets eligible for a Varsity Letter. For athletes in good standing, you will automatically earn a letter if you achieve any of the following:
... qualify for CIF (at the De Anza league finals)
... earn 3 first place finishes in dual meets
... earn a first place finish at an invitational
... break a school record!
