2017 will mark a return to Golden High School for Coach Thumim.  He previously spent 10 years as head coach for Golden HS (1999-2008) and 11 overall at Golden.  He had been with the program since 1998.

During this time, the Demons reached the state playoffs 9 years in a row, beginning in 2000.  This playoff run included a state semi-final appearance in 2005 in which the Demons lost to eventual state champion Cherry Creek 9-8.

While under Thumim’s direction, the Demons won 5 Jeffco Championships and the Foothills Conference in 2005.  In 2005, Mike garnered Foothills Conference Coach of the Year honors as well as, being named The 2005 Rocky Mountain News Coach of the Year for the state of Colorado.  While at Golden, he coached 2 All-Americans (Chris Bluse-G and Josh Secora-M), 16 All-state players, and 39 All-conference players.

Before his return to Golden, Mike spent 5 years as Head Coach at Dakota Ridge HS, in Littleton, Colorado, a program he started.  He had a record of 44-29 at DRHS.

In 2014, Thumim guided the Eagles to their first ever playoff appearance in their second year as a varsity team.  They finished with an impressive 11-5 record while Thumim garnered Coach of the Year honors for the Front Range Conference.

Mike came to Dakota Ridge after serving as Varsity Defensive Coordinator for Mullen HS from 2009-2011.  In 2009 he helped guide Mullen into the State Championship where they lost to Arapahoe 8-7.  While at Mullen, Mike led a defense that sent 3 players to Division 1 colleges.

Overall, Mike has 18 years of experience as a high school coach in Colorado.  He has 14 years as a head coach and an overall record of 140-89.

Mike is also the head coach for the Russian National Team.  In the 2016, Mike led the team to a 16th place finish out of 24 teams in their inaugural appearance at the European Championships.  The Russians were predicted to finish 23rd and not make it out of their pool play.  They exceeded both predictions as Thumim led them to victories over Slovakia and France to advance to tournament play.  Thumim will look to improve Russia’s performance in the 2018 World Championships in Manchester England.

Other experience for Coach Thumim includes the Team Colorado U-17 Defensive Coordinator in 2007 and 2008.  He also had the distinct honor of being a selector for the U-19 Team USA tryouts for the 2008 World Championships.

Coach Thumim’s other lacrosse experience includes playing for The Aged Spirits, a Supermasters team.  He began playing lacrosse at Columbine HS ’87 and club lacrosse at Ohio University ’91.  Coach Thumim currently teaches Biology, and Anatomy at Golden HS.  He has 2 daughters, Larissa (17) and Tatiana (13).
