Hello West Hills Girls Soccer Players and Parents,

My name is Robert Romero and I am the new coach of the girls soccer program.  I am very excited to be given this opportunity to help build this program.  I foresee great things, not just this upcoming year, but several years after.  I will be discussing my experience, my philosophy, and what’s next.

I have been coaching for 27 years, with 27 years of club coaching and 9 years of high school.  Some of my most memorable years coaching was at El Capitan High School, where myself and my assistant coaches took a program from nothing and helped transform it into CIF Champions.  I also have 39 years of playing experience.  I have played collegiately at Point Loma Nazarene University and professionally with a division 1 professional team and the Pros with the San Diego Sockers.  I love playing this game as much as I love coaching it!

West Hills Girls Soccer Program!  To be successful the program needs to be ran the same way from novice, JV, and all the way up to Varsity.  The same coaching philosophy needs to be implemented throughout.

            That philosophy is this:

We will instill confidence in oneself and as a team.  We will briefly do technical training and focus a lot on tactics (Team Organizational Skills) offensively and defensively.  There will be no players that are above the team.  A pedestal player will not exist, individual awards are recognized, but team goals are the most important.  When you achieve high honors as a team, CIF Championship/League Champs, more players are recognized.  We will play with passion and we will play with pride.  Passion, for the love of the game and pride, for our sense of attachment and fulfilled feeling towards West Hills.  Players will be selected by ability, not by grade and playing time will be earned through competition at practice.  What club or organization you play for does not matter to me, if you can help the program and you are what the program needs, that’s what we are looking for.  Finally, we will set a team goal!  A goal of being a cohesive unit built on trust and a willingness to do what’s in the best interest of the team to achieve the ultimate goal of winning.

What’s next? I would like each player’s name, what grade you will be, positions you can play, what club or organization you play for, and for fun your favorite pro team. Last, I plan on having a meet and greet in October to talk about tryouts, clearance, and what’s expected.

Thank you,

Robert Romero
