Livonia 7 - Aquinas 5

May 30, 2011
The Li'l Irish traveled to Livonia to battle the Bulldogs.  The AQ bats tried to send an early message, scoring three times in their first at bat.  C.J. Von Bargen led off the game with a single, and Chris Bostick walked.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Taylor Byrne singled in both runs.  Max DeNora followed with a single, and Steve Trubia ended the scoring with an RBI single.  Livonia's aggressive hitting and baserunning resulted in them scoring runs in the first 4 innings, and taking a 5-3 lead.  In the 5th, AQ tied the score as Joe Molisani singled, and Bostick was hit by a pitch.  Sean Hare scored one run on a sacrifice fly, and Trubia singled home the tying run.  Livonia's hitters and opportunistic baserunners immediately responded with two runs in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead.  Aquinas loaded the bases in the 6th inning, but could not get that timely hit to tie the score.

Cypress Lake jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings, helped by two Aquinas fielding errors. The Li'l Irish got one back in the 3rd, when walks to Eric Terhaar and C.J. Von Bargen were followed by two Cypress Lake errors. In the 4th, Aquinas scored two more as Joe Molisani singled, Tom Mastrodonato reached on an error, Von Bargen walked, and Chris Bostick's infield single scored one (with the other run scoring on a wild pitch). With the score 4-3 in the top of the 6th, Molisani singled, was pinch run for by Sean Whelehan, who was at 3rd Base with two outs and a 2-1 count on Von Bargen - when the Florida rains came! After about a 45 minute delay, played resumed and Von Bargen singled in the tying run. In the top of the 7th, Aquinas took a 6-4 lead as Taylor Byrne and Max DeNora singled, Molisani was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Terhaar walked in a run. With the score 6-5 and two out, a bloop single by Cypress Lake forced extra innings, where they scored in the bottom of the 9th for the win.

In the 2011 Home Opener, Aquinas' Senior Pitcher Steve Trubia threw a no-hitter against Albion High School of Section 6 (Albion finished 2010 as New York State's 5th ranked team in Class A). Aquinas managed only 5 hits, but made them all count. In the 3rd inning, Trubia walked and went to second on a wild pitch. He scored on a double by Joe Molisani. Eric Terhaar also doubled to score Molisani.

Greece Arcadia 11 - Aquinas 7

April 8, 2011
With Aquinas' field still a bit soggy from the winter thaw, the team forfeited a home game and played instead at Greece Arcadia.  The game started well, as Aquinas scored 4 times in their first at bat.  With one out, C.J. Von Bargen lined a single to right, followed by a Chris Bostick walk.  Sean Hare's infield single loaded the bases.  Taylor Byrne's ground outscored the first run.  Max DeNora reached first on a throwing error, with 2 more runs scoring.  The final run scored when Joe Molisani reached on an error as well.

Aquinas then gave up 11 straight runs before it scored again in the 6th inning.  Steve Trubia and Amado Garcia each signled, and scored on singles by Nick Tarana and Tom Mastrodonato.  Hare's sacrifice fly finished the scoring.

Even though AQ's bats had a 4 inning lull (where they managed only one misplayed pop-up single), they still managed to score 7 runs on 10 hits.  The story of the game was pitching, as Aquinas allowed 9 walks and 2 HBPs.

Chris Bostick 2 for 3 (2B); Steve Trubia 2 for 4; Nick Tarana 2 for 4 (RBI); Amado Garcia 1 for 1; Tom Mastrodonato 1 for 1 (RBI); C.J. Von Bargen 1 for 2; Sean Hare 1 for 3 (RBI)

Von Bargen walked, and was forced out by Bostick's grounder to 2B.  Sean Hare followed with a two run shot to right, his 1st of the season.  In the 4th, AQ manufactured a run when Steve Trubia singled, was sacrificed to second by Joe Molisani, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch.  Aquinas scored in the 5th on a long double by Max DeNora, a single by Trubia and a RBI groundout by Molisani.  With the score 6-2, AQ added a run in the 6th when Terhaar singled, Von Bargen and Bostick walked, and a wild pitch brought home Terhaar.  The final run came in the 7th, when Clayton Stanley and Tommy Mastrodonato walked, and were followed by an RBI double off the bat of Nick Tarana.

Trubia started and pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 5.  Mastrodonato relieved and pitched 3 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 3.
