Penn Yan 5 - Aquinas 4
The Aquinas baseball season came to a disappointing ending today in an extra inning loss at Penn Yan, 5 - 4. Aquinas opened the scoring in the top of the first when Dominic Amato and Tyler Freedman singled, then Tommy Mastrodonato doubled scoring Amato. Penn Yan tied the game in the bottom of the inning. In the second, Ben Barrow and Dillon Flaherty singled, then Colin Reynolds hit a three run home run over the left field fence, AQ 4 - 1. Penn Yan got those three runs back in the bottom of the third, the last on a very controversial call.
The Li'l Irish bats became silent and the game ended in a tie. The Mustangs scored one in the bottom of the eigth for the win.

Aquinas To Travel To Penn Yan in Sectionals
Aquinas drew the 5th seed and will play on the road on Friday, May 24th in Penn Yan, NY. Game time is 4:30 so schedule that vacation now to travel down there. Directions will be posted in the Directions Link shortly.
Aquinas 7 - McQuaid 3
Aquinas visited McQuaid and came away the winners to split the series in this great rivalry. Aquinas jumped out to an early 2 - 0 lead in the top of the first when Dominic Amato singled and was scored on Tyler Freedman's third home run of the season. McQuaid put up a run of their own in the third, AQ 2 - 1. Aquinas answered back with a run in the fourth when Reagan Morrow reached on an error, Armando Rivera singled, and Ben Barrow hit a double of the wall in right field which scored Morrow. McQuaid came back and scored one run in the bottom of the fourth, then another run in the fifth to tie the game, 3 - 3.
The Li'l Irish scored the winning run in the sixth inning when Morrow doubled and was driven home on a double by Ben Knauf. The Irish added three more in the top of the seventh when Amato walked, and advanced to third on an outfield error hit by Tom Mastrodonato. Morrow's single brought home Amato, and Will Leonardo followed with another single that scored both Mastrodonato and Morrow.
Tommy Mastrodonato, who pitched the complete game for the victory, closed the door on the Knights by only allowing one base runner over the last two innings, and kept their hitters off balance all game.

Aquinas 6 - Wayne Central 5
It was Senior Day at Aquinas as they hosted Wayne Central, and won an exciting comeback game in the bottom of the seventh. Aquinas took an early lead in the first when Donnie Wolak & Tommy Mastrodonato singled, and Reagan Morrow doubled to score Wolak. In the second, Wayne scored two runs to take the lead, but AQ retook the lead in the third when they scored two. Dominic Amato led off with a walk, was advanced to second on a nice sacrifice bunt by Wolak, Mastrodonato then walked, and another double by Morrow scored Amato. Dillon Flaherty's Sacrifice Fly scored Mastrodonato. The score remained 3-2, AQ, until the fifth when Wayne tied the game, then Wayne took a 2 run lead in the top of the seventh when they hit a 2 run home run to left field. The Li'l Irish didn't let down and came out swinging in the bottom of the seventh. Morrow singled, and advanced to third on two passed balls, Colin Reynolds walked, and then Will Leonardo singled to score Morrow. Ben Barrow came in and hit a pinch hit double to the right center gap that scored both Reynolds and Leonardo, and in grand walk off fashion, the team mobbed Barrow to celebrate the winning hit.
Senior Jacob Scheuch pitched a very strong game throwing 14 strike-outs over 6 innings while scattering 4 hits. Senior Connor McKenna came in during the seventh and earned the victory while recording two strike-outs of his own.

Saturday's Rich Pillitier Games Cancelled
Due to the heavy rain over night, the Aquinas infield is too wet to safely play baseball games today, and the three games scheduled for the Rich Pillitier tournament are cancelled. There is no practice today. More information on whether these games will be made up will be provided by the coach to the players on Monday.

Aquinas 8 - Bishop Kearney 4, 9 Innings
Aquinas swept the series from the Kings this year, but it took extra innings today to seal the victory. Bishop Kearney jumped to an early lead when they scored a run in the bottom of the first. AQ scored two in the fifth when Colin Reynolds reached second on an infield throwing error, then Dillon Flaherty made first on another infield error. Ben Knauf was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Donnie Wolak singled to score Reynolds, and an errant throw allowed Flaherty to score. But pesky Kearney scored one in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
AQ took the lead in the sixth scoring one when Tyler Freedman walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch. AQ scored one more in the top of the seventh when Flaherty walked and Knauf made first on a bunt with an errant throw advancing the two runners to second and third. Freedman singled to score Flaherty. Kearney then rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, 4 - 4. AQ plated 4 runs in the ninth when Flaherty doubled and Knauf tripled scoring the run, then made home when the throw into the infield was misplayed. Donnie Wolak made first on another infield error, Dominic Amato walked and Freedman doubled scoring Wolak. Amato then scored on a wild pitch.
Connor McKenna and Jacob Scheuch shared the mound duties and worked out of a number of jams to keep the game close. Aquinas returns home to host the Pillitier Tournament this Saturday when they face off at 10 am vs. Bishop Timon / St. Jude of Buffalo.

Aquinas 9 - Hornell 7
Aquinas bounced back today and won a rain & thunder delayed game at home vs. their southern tier foes from Hornell. Aquinas jumped out to a 4 - 0 lead in the second when Colin Reynolds reached on an error, Ben Barrow walked and Ben Knauf bunted safely to load the bases, the throw over toward first was wild which scored Reynolds. Donnie Wolak delivered a single to score Barrow, then Dominic Amato bunted safely to fill the bases again. Reagan Morrow singled to bring home Knauf & Wolak. Shortly after this, a 30 minute delay was called for one clap of thunder.
Hornell bounced back in the top of the third scoring six times, then added another run in the top of the fourth to grab a 7 - 4 lead. Aquinas struck back in the bottom of the fifth when Dillon Flaherty, Reynolds, Knauf and Wolak all walked. Amato's short single scored one, and Tyler Freedman doubled clearing the bases, final AQ 9 - 7.
Defensively, Aquinas turned two double plays, Jacob Scheuch pitched in relief to earn the victory, and was followed by Connor McKenna closing things down in the seventh with three consecutive strike-outs to earn the Save when Hornell had two in scoring position.

Batavia 8 - Aquinas 4
The alternating good game - bad game funk continued for Aquinas as they took the loss at Dwyer Field in Batavia. Batavia scored three unearned runs in the third inning before Aquinas put some runs on the board in the fifth. Ben Barrow singled and Dillion Flaherty walked. A sacrifice bunt by Jacob Schuech moved the runners and Dominic Amato's infield error scored Barrow. Tommy Mastrodonato then hit a three run homer over the left field fence for a 4- 3 lead. Batavia answered back to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth, and then Aquinas let the game slip away by giving up 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Aquinas 13 - Churchville-Chili 3
The Aquinas bats came alive today as they blew open a close game with a 15 hit attack. AQ started the scoring in the second when Reagan Morrow and Armando Rivera singled, and Ben Barrow plated Morrow on an error. A walk to Dan Delaus loaded the bases and another walk to Dominic Amato scored Rivera. C-C brought the score to 2 - 1 when they added a run in the bottom of the second, then tied the score in the fourth.
AQ took control of the game in the fifth plating five runs. Amato, Tyler Freedman and Tommy Mastrodonato all singled with Amato scoring, then Morrow doubled to drive in Freedman and Mastrodonato. Ben Knauf hit a deep fly to center that allowed Morrow to score from second, then Rivera, Colin Reynolds and Barrow singled with Rivera scoring on the last single.
AQ added six more in the sixth. Amato singled and Freedman hit his second home run of the season to right field. Morrow then singled, followed by walks to Rivera and Jacob Scheuch. Barrow scored two with a double, Delaus made first on an error to load the bases, and Amato singled scoring Barrow. C-C added one in the bottom of the sixth to end the scoring.

McQuaid 16 - Aquinas 3
Aquinas lost at home for the frst time this year, and in a big way. The Li'l Irish struggled defensively all day which led to the inflated score more than anything.
McQuaid put one run on the board in the top of the first without a hit, but Aquinas answered back with three in the bottom of the frame. A lead-off walk to Dominic Amato was followed by another walk to Tyler Freedman. Tommy Mastrodonato followed with a home run over the left field fence to take the lead, 3 - 1. In the second, the wheels came off for AQ, as they yielded 5 runs on only one hit. From that point on, AQ just couldn't get things back together defensively, or string hits together to score any more runs.
Aquinas plays on the road vs. Churchville-Chili on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm.

Aquinas 5 - Pittsford Mendon 4
It was left side of the infield day for Aquinas as third baseman Armando Rivera and shortstop Tommy Mastrodonato came to the plate with big bats, and combined for 9 fielding assists as they led AQ to victory, 5-4.
Aquinas spotted the visiting Vikings a 2 - 0 lead in the first inning, then stormed into the lead in the bottom of the third scoring four with a five hit attack, which included two home runs. Armando Rivera led off the inning and drove a ball to left center which cleared the fence for his first Varsity home run. Colin Reynolds and Dominic Amato followed with back to back singles and stolen bases to put the runners at 2nd and 3rd. Tyler Freedman's grounder to 2nd base plated Reynolds to tie the game, then Tommy Mastrodonato hit a shot over the left field fence to make the score 4 - 2.
Pittsford Mendon scored one in the fourth to bring the score to 4-3, but the Li'l Irish extended the lead back to two in the fifth when Reagan Morrow tripled and scored on a single by Ben Knauf. Mendon scored one in the top of the sixth to end the scoring.
Aquinas plays at home on Tuesday against McQuaid at 4:30 pm.

Aquinas travelled to Athol Springs, NY and were steamrolled. Aquinas stranded 12 baserunners, and St. Francis pitched well enough to get the key outs when they needed to preserve the shut-out.
Aquinas returns home to face Pittsdford Mendon on Monday afternoon.

Aquinas 12 - Bishop Kearney 2
Aquinas returned home for only the second time this year and defeated Bishop Kearney with a fourteen hit attack. AQ opened the scoring in the first when Dominic Amato made base on an error, Tyler Freedman singled,Tommy Mastrodonato made base on an error and Reagan Morrow doubled. Morrow advanced to third on a Ben Knauf single and scored on an errant throw to 2nd. AQ 3 - 0.
The Li'l Irish blew the game wide open in the third inning when Freedman doubled, Mastrodonato walked and Morrow doubled scoring both runners. Knauf made base on an error, the error advancing Morrow home. After a stolen base put Knauf at third, Dillion Flaherty singled scoring Knauf. In the fourth, AQ struck for two more when Freedman singled, Mastrodonato and Knauf walked, and Dan Delaus singled bringing in Freedman. Ben Barrow's infield out plated Mastrodonato. AQ 9 - 0.
AQ added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to complete their scoring. In the fifth, Colin Reynolds made base on an error, Donnie Wolak singled, and Mastrodonato doubled scoring Reynolds. Knauf's sacrifice fly scored Wolak. In the sixth, Oscar Kwon & Jacob Scheuch singled, and Kwon scored on Wolak's single. Kearney added two runs in the top of the seventh to close out the game's scoring.
Senior Reagan Morrow and Junior Ben Barrow had the pitching duties with Morrow taking a no-hit bid to 2 outs in the fourth. Aquinas travels back on the road to Bufflao to face St. Francis of Athol Springs for a Saturday game at noon.

Senior Tommy Mastrodonato pitched a two hit complete game, but costly fielding play led to Athena plating five runs. Aquinas jumped to a 2 - 0 lead in the top of the first when Dominic Amato and Tyler Freedman hit back to back doubles, and Tommy Mastrodonato singled to score Freedman. Reagan Morrow doubled putting runners at 2nd and 3rd, but the rally ended there. Athena scored three in the bottom of the first and single unearned runs in the third and six innings.

The Gilman School (Baltimore, Md.) 12, 9 - Aquinas 1, 3
Aquinas travelled to Baltimore to face the always tough Gilman School coached by ex-Red Wing & Oriole, Larry Sheets, and AQ came out on the wrong end in both games of the doubleheader.
In the first game, Aquinas jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first when three consecutive singles by Dominic Amato, Tyler Freedman and Tommy Mastrodonato loaded the bases. With one out, Ben Knauf singled to score Amato, but a double play ended the scoring at one. Gilman rebounded with three in the bottom of the first and two in the second to make it 5 to 1, and then ended the game in the bottom of the fifth when they struck for 7.

In the second game, Aquinas jumped to an early lead when Dominic Amato was hit by a pitch, Jacob Scheuch walked and Ben Knauf doubled to score the two runners. Aquinas held onto the lead behind the strong pitching of Connor McKenna until the bottom of the fourth when Gilman got their first hit and put a run on the board. Aquinas bounced back to get that run back in the fifth when Colin Reynolds singled, was bunt sacrificed to 2nd by Scheuch, and Tommy Mastrodonato doubled scoring Reynolds. But the talented Gilman School struck for four in the bottom of the fifth and four more in the sixth to end the scoring.

Aquinas 4 - Albion 0
Senior Tommy Mastrodonato pitched a one hitter, complete game leading the Li'l Irish on to victory in their home opener. Mastrodonato struck out 9 with no walks, and kept the Albion batters leaving the box scratching their heads with 7 watched third pitch strike-outs. The no-hit bid was broken up in the second inning with one out, but after the hit, the next thirteen batters were put out before another runner made first on a HBP.
Aquinas opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Dominic Amato walked, made second on an errant pick-off attempt, and scored on a single by Ben Knauf. The Li'l Irish added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth when Ben Barrow and Colin Reynolds hit back to back singles and Armando Rivera walked to load the bases. Dominic Amato followed with a single to score two. Rivera scored the last run on a wild pitch.

Aquinas 6 - St. Joe's 3
Sophomore Tyler Freedman led the attack for the Li'l Irish hitting his first Varsity home run and doubling, as Aquinas won for the first time this year on a frigid, windy day in Buffalo on the turf field at St. Joe's.
Aquinas opened the scoring in the top of the second when Ben Knauf hit an infield single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single hit by Ben Barrow. St. Joe’s answered in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game. AQ struck for two more runs in the fourth when Will Leonardo singled, advanced to 2nd on a fielder's choice, then scored on a single by Dillon Flaherty, who moved to second on the throw home. Flaherty then scored on a single by Armando Rivera. St. Joe's came back to score one in the bottom of the fourth.
Tyler Freedman led off the fifth and drove a ball over the right field fence to put AQ back up by two. In the sixth, AQ got the bases loaded when Rivera and Colin Reynolds singled, and Freedman made first on a force play. Tommy Mastrodonato hit an error that got into shallow left field that brought in two more runs. St. Joe’s answered for their last unearned run in the bottom of the seventh before Jacob Schuech ended the game striking out the last batter.
Mastrodonato, Barrow, Connor McKenna and Scheuch shared the mound duties allowing five hits and striking out eight.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13TH JV & VARSITY GAME SITES MOVED
Due to the rainy week, the games scheduled this Saturday vs. St. Joseph Collegiate Institute have been moved from Aquinas to St. Joes. The game times have also been changed with the JV game starting at 1 PM and the Varsity at 3 PM.
St. Joe's is located in Buffalo on Kenmore Avenue, between Starin Ave. and Colvin Ave. Directions can be found using the "Directions" link on the left and selecting the venue "St. Joes".
Aquinas - Naples Rained Out
The Aquinas - Naples High School game that was scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, was rained out. No re-make of this game was possible due to the team travelling back to Rochester, NY on the 5th.
Due to severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings in the Naples, Florida, area, the baseball game for tonight has been cancelled and will not be made up. Good luck in the upcoming play-offs Naples and we hope to see you next year.
Cypress Lake 7, Aquinas 6
A scrappy Aquinas team lost a very close game tonight in Ft. Myers, storming back from 7 - 1 deficit to lose by one run, 7- 6.
Cypress Lake opened the scoring getting one run in the bottom of the first and another run in the bottom of the second. They struck for four more in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 6 - 0 lead. Aquinas put their first run on the board in the top of the fifth when Tommy Mastrodonato doubled and was brought in on another double by Ben Knauf. Cypress Lake got that run back in the bottom of the fifth to maintain a six run lead.
In the top of the sixth, Aquinas struck for another run when Colin Reynolds singled and advanced to third on an error hit by Dominic Amato, then scored on another infield error hit by Ben Barrow.
But the excitement of the game for Li'l Irish fans and players was the top of the seventh when Aquinas scored four and had the bases loaded when the game ended. Ben Knauf led off with a walk, Tyler Freedman singled, and Will Leonardo doubled scoring Knauf. Colin Reynolds then singled scoring Freedman and Donnie Wolak singled scoring Leonardo. Dominic Amato hit into a fielder's choice that scored Reynolds and made the score 7 - 6. Tommy Mastrodonato singled and Reagan Morrow walked to load up the bases, but Cypress Lake was able to get the last out to end the game.
Tommy Mastrodonato started for Aquinas and had nine strike-outs while giving up five hits and 3 earned runs. Connor McKenna came on in relief yielding only one hit in one and one-third innings.
Aquinas has an off day on Wednesday and then completes their Florida games on Thursday with a game against powerhouse Naples High School down in Naples.

Seminole Ridge 6, Aquinas 1
Seminole Ridge took the victory in the Aquinas season opener scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to blow open a very close game.
The Li’l Irish opened the scoring in the first inning when lead-off batter, Dominic Amato doubled, was sacrifice bunted to third by Ben Barrow, and scored on a grounder to 2nd hit by Tommy Mastrodonato. Seminole Ridge answered back to tie the score in the bottom of the first, then scored another run in the bottom of the fourth. Reagan Morrow pitched five innings for Aquinas keeping the Seminole Ridge batters to fly balls and grounders for much of the game, allowing only two hits.
Aquinas continues their Florida schedule playing a double-header scrimmage & official game with Cypress Lake High School of Ft. Myers on Tuesday night.

Aquinas opens its 2013 Baseball season this evening at 6:30 pm playing in Loxahatchee, Florida vs. Seminole Ridge High School. Go Irish!
An error was noticed today on the schedule that is linked to the web-site for the Cypress Lake High School game in Ft. Myers. This game is scheduled for April 2nd at 7 pm, not April 3rd as was posted. A scrimmage game is also scheduled for a 4 pm start vs. a Cypress Lake JV/Varsity squad.

2013 AQUINAS BASEBALL PRACTICES START!!!
Coach Magliocco & Coach Higgins have announced the following practice schedules as we begin the Spring sporting season!
VARSITY BASEBALL PRACTICE:
Monday, March 4th6:30 – 9:00 PM in the Field House
JUNIOR VARSITY BASEBALL PRACTICE:
Monday, March 4th6:30 – 9:00 PM in the Field House
Practice time for Varsity and JV will remain the same for the entire week (March 4th to March 8th).
Please come with baseball gear and sneaks, and be there promptly ready to begin practice at 6:30 pm.
MODIFIED BASEBALL PRACTICE:
Practice will begin on March 18th.
For those Modified Players, if you haven’t started stretching & strengthening, now is the time to get those throwing arms, backs & legs in shape.
AQUINAS BASEBALL ANNOUNCES 2013 VARSITY SCHEDULE
The schedule for the Aquinas Varsity Baseball Team is once again packed with top teams from Florida, Maryland, and New York. Aquinas will open their schedule on the road a long way from home when they face Seminole Ridge High School, of Loxahatchee, Florida, on April 1st. Two days later, they play Cypress Lakes High School of Fort Myers, and the following night they complete their Florida trip facing Naples High School, of Naples, Florida. The team will return home to Rochester and play local power Greece Athena in the week following the Florida trip. A second trip south is scheduled to face The Gilman School, of Baltimore, Maryland, one of the top teams in Maryland last season. When the team returns home they will face a very strong schedule including McQuaid Jesuit, Bishop Kearney, Wayne, Hornell, Pittsford-Mendon, Churchville-Chili, Batavia, and St. Francis of Buffalo. The schedule is still being finalized and will be posted once it is complete.

Baseball Season Just Around the Corner
Aquinas baseball's season is just around the corner, though no one would know if from the late Winter March we've had here in Rochester. The team has been practicing inside for close to 4 weeks now and everyone is looking forward for the day that they can practice outside.

Aquinas returns five of last year's starters and has much of their pitching staff back, including the Section V Championship MVP, Tommy Mastrodonato. There will be opportunities to fill some big shoes from last year's graduating seniors, and the Coaching Staff is focusing on playing as a team and everyone contributing to make this year a success.
