5/28/58 -- Duluth Morgan Park 7, Proctor 1
The Morgan Park 7-1 victory was pitched by John Gornick, sophomore southpaw, who whiffed 18 and walked only two.
The lone Proctor run in the first inning was unearned. It came in after a hit batsman, sacrifice, passed ball and error.
Driving in two runs apiece for the Wildcats were Dennis Brodin, who had two singles, and Russell Johnson, who had a double and single.
Catcher Larry Puhl got on base with two singles and a double.
Bort hit a double for the Rails.
The victory was the second of the tournament for Morgan Park, which has an overall 6-4 record this season.

5/31/57 -- Duluth Central 2, Proctor 0
Gus Kohlts Tosses 1-Hitter At Rails; Trojans in Semis
Gus Kohlts tossed his second one-hitter of the District 26 high school baseball tournament to eliminate Proctor, 2-0, in a second-round game at Wade Municipal stadium...
Troy won its way to the semi-finals, where it meets Denfeld's tournament favorites...
Kohlts, who won his third game against one loss this season with yesterday's victory, issued only one walk while striking out 15 in duel with the Rails' Bill Bort. The husky Trojan's other tournament shutout was over Clover Valley last week.
The no-hitter was ruined in the second by Bort, who lined out a clean single. Only one player reached second, on a balk by Kohlts. Bort was picked off first base after singling.
Troy scored in the first inning when Bill Soderlind led off with a single, Marshall Levinson then drew one of three walks issued by Bort ahead of a double by Mike Soderland, sending Soderlind home.
Levinson got the Trojans' third hit in the sixth. Fedo sacrificed and was safe on a fielder's choice, Dave Baker moving the runners ahead on a sacrifice. Levinson stole home on an attempted squeeze play. The ball was too high, the batter missing it, but the ball got away from the catcher as Levinson slid in.

6/01/56 -- Duluth Denfeld 6, Proctor 0
Denfeld's Marty Nyquist pitched a near-perfect no-hit no-run game as the Hunters dumped Proctor 6-0...
Nyquist's bid for a perfect game was spoiled in the fifth inning when he pitched a ball that struck Proctor's Hanson. Hanson trotted to first, but went no farther as Nyquist held the Rails down with nine strikeouts while not walking a batter.
Denfeld went into a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Dale Noreen, who had tripled, was squeezed home on a bunt by Larry Johnson.
The Hunters added four more in the fifth. Bob Gernander doubling home Don Wegmiller and Billy Anderson and Noreen singling in Gernander and Dale Heitala.
Final run for Denfeld came in the seventh when Anderson reached first on an error and came home on a double by Gernander.

5/25/55 -- Duluth East 3, Proctor 0
Duluth East made its three hits count with a 3-0 victory over Proctor... King Spurbeck and Ron Olson combined to shut out the Rails... Spurbeck was forced to retire in the third after being hit by a batted ball. Olson doffed his catcher's tools to take the hill in Spurbeck's relief.
Don Crago delivered a two-run single for the Greyhounds in the second frame after the victors had scored once in the first inning. Dave Monroe's double for the Rails was the only extra-base blow.

6/01/54 -- Duluth Denfeld 18, Proctor 0 (5 Innings)
Dick Gillen, in the five innings he worked, struck out 11 Rails and limited them to one hit, a scratch single in the fifth.
The Rails were charged with 11 errors as the Hunters ran wild on the bases, stealing 10 including home on three occasions.

6/07/52 -- Duluth Denfeld 11, Proctor 2
Bill Nelson twirled a one-hitter yesterday as Denfeld trounced Proctor, 11-2, in a first-round game of the District 26 baseball tournament.
Wally Miller got the only extra base blow of the game played on Proctor's field. The Hunters' third baseman cracked a double.

6/11/51 -- Proctor 4, Esko 2
...Proctor edged Esko, 4-2, as each team was held to four hits. Mel Koivisto collected two for the losers and Jim Norton got a pair for Proctor.
Wayne Johanson was the victorious pitcher and Koivisto was tagged with the setback.
6/12/51 -- Duluth Central 8, Proctor 2
The Trojans won over Proctor, 8-2, on the latter's diamond. Eisenberg hit a triple and single for the winners.

6/13/50 -- Esko 12, Proctor 5
Esko exploded for six runs in the seventh inning after the Rails had kept a close tab on the visiting Eskomos. Wildness had its toll in this game...
Mel Koivisto, on the mound for the Eskomos, only let up five hits but walked six and struck out 11. Dale Erickson, Proctor's flinger, gave up the same number of bingles, walked 10 and fanned 13.

Proctor Eliminates Agates
Two Harbors was eliminated from further consideration in the District 26 high school baseball tournament, falling victim to Proctor on the Rails' diamond, 3-0...
Ronnie Main, Proctor pitcher, held the Two Harbors nine to four bingles and struck out eight men. He was in control throughout the game.
Wayne Johanson's double in the fourth inning provided one of the two runs the Rails punched across to take the lead. Proctor added one more in the next inning to clinch the game.
Larry Brett led the Rails at the plate with two hits while Ken Swanson, Agate player, led his team with two of the four bingles they managed off Main.
8/08/49 -- Duluth Central 13, Proctor 3
Central... hammered its way into the finals with a lop-sided 13-3 win over the Proctor Rails...
Norm Kragseth led the thrill-packed... game in spectacular plays when he boomed a homer over the 340-foot marker about 30 feet in from the foul line in left field in the fourth inning with two mates on the sacks.
Just a short while before, Stan Hendrickson, fleet Trojan ace, circled the bases with an inside-the-park home run with no one on the bases.
Hendrickson also led the Trojans' 11-hit barrage by contributing a triple along with his homer.
The Trojans came from behind with a five run burst in the last half of the second inning, after the Rails had scored three times in the top half of the frame.
Four more Central runs were added in the third frame and the last four on the homers by Kragseth and Hendrickson in the fourth.
Kragseth, on the mound for the winners, allowed only six hits and fanned seven men.
The Rails started Erickson but he was relieved by Ronnie Main in the third inning who finished the tour.

The Rails registered a 2-0 victory over Morgan Park behind the steady, two-hit pitching of Ronald Main...
8/03/48 -- Duluth Denfeld 7, Proctor 1
...Denfeld had little trouble disposing of Proctor behind the five-hit pitching of Wayne Morris. The Hunters scored three runs in the third on a triple, two singles and a walk, and added three more in the fifth when Proctor's defense fell apart.

Rails Smear Agates, 14-3
Slugging out 11 hits against a pair of Two Harbors pitchers, the Proctor high school baseball team moved into the semi-finals of the District 26 tournament with a 14-3 victory over the Agates in a preliminary game of the Duluth-Aberdeen fray at Municipal stadium last night.
The Proctor victory sends the Rails against the Duluth Central nine at a date not determined next week. Denfeld, termed a favorite in the tourney, meets Esko at 5:45 p.m. Monday in the stadium as a prelim to the Dukes-Sioux Falls Northern league attraction.
Held in check through the fourth inning, the Rails bounced out for five runs in the fifth, added six in the sixth and climaxed the scoring spree with a pair in the seventh.

Central Nine Beat Rails To Reach District Finals
Central gained the finals of the District 26 high school baseball tournament with a 9-2 victory last night over Proctor in a game played as a preliminary to the Duluth Dukes-Grand Forks Chiefs game.
Johnny Arthur and Wayne Johnson gave up only five hits between them for the Trojans who meanwhile gathered 11 off Bernard.
Pete Henricksen led the Central attack with three singles, and Swanson chipped in a single and triple.
