Douglas L. Hufman

“Ponytail”

Born:  October 17, 1950 in Baltimore, MD

High School:  Parkville High School, Parkville, MD

Doug Hufman was first seen playing softball in 1970 with the C & P Telephone team in the Industrial League.  He was easily recognizable by his signature waist length ponytail.  He later played for many of the Baltimore area’s elite teams:  Rosedale Cardinals, Port’s Sport Shop, Baltimore Airpark, Blue Gables, Al’s Tavern, Hard Times, Betty & Jakes, Display Data, Wilkens House and Car Center.

Doug was recognized on the field for his extraordinary offensive and defensive skills.  In the outfield, he had the speed to track down anything hit and the cannon arm to throw out anyone trying to take the extra base.  He possessed the raw power to hit the ball out of fenced fields while the combination of hard hit balls and outstanding speed made him an extra base threat on open fields.  An aggressive player who gave his all on every play, he was the opponent you didn’t want to see with the game on the line.

In addition to numerous All Tournament Team and MVP awards, in 1976, Doug was named MVP of the prestigious Baltimore AA Slow Pitch Softball League.
