William R. Steele

Billy Steele has participated in slow pitch softball for 46 years, playing at the top level for teams like Greenbelt Shell, Greenbelt Legion, John Hansen’s, Betty & Jake’s, Thomas Engineering, Fergie’s and Montgomery Automotive. He is a strong armed outfielder and consistent hitter who bats to the situation. He can get on base to start an inning, get the extra base hit to clear the bases or hit it out when needed. He is known as an intense competitor and top performer – a step above the rest. Throughout his career, he was a consistent winner who always came through regardless of the situation.
Over the years, Billy’s teams have captured more than 35 National Championships in addition to numerous other league and tournament crowns. He has also been the recipient of scores of All Tournament Team awards.
Billy was inducted into the Metro Washington Slow Pitch Hall of Fame in 1985 and the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 1996.
