Coach Information - Team Formation

Team formation occurs shortly after tryouts complete.

Coaches form teams after review and approval from the board, and the results are posted on the BTSC web site

The next step is to have a parent meeting to talk about the upcoming year. This is best done before the last day of school to maximize attendance.

During this meeting, be sure to cover the following:

  1. BTSC Philosophy

    1. Development over winning, especially at younger ages

    2. Players are committing to a Fall and Spring season

    3. Players are expected, within reason, to attend both weekly training sessions

  2. Playing time

    1. Mandatory 50% for small sided

    2. Mandatory 25% large sided for MNJYSA, BTSC is 50%

  3. Season details

    1. Practices usually start in August, but depends on the team

    2. Team pre-season camp in mid to late August, prior to LDT, about $125 per player

    3. LDT

    4. Good idea for a 2nd pre-season tournament the following weekend

    5. Fall season starts mid-September and runs until mid-November, for a total of 10 games

    6. Spring season starts mid-March and runs until late May, also for 10 games

    7. Optional Spring tournaments

  4. Expenses

    1. $180 registration fee per in the fall (includes LDT Ad Book costs), and $150 in the spring.

    2. $100 uniform, every 2 or 3 years

    3. $125 pre-season camp

    4. Other expenses depending on additional training and tournaments - base registration covers 10 trainer-lead practices of 90 minutes.

  5. Parent Positions

  6. Labor Day Tournament (LDT)

    1. Sole fundraiser for the club - keeps other costs down

    2. Every BTSC team must play

    3. Every parent must volunteer for two 2 hour shifts, or one 3 hour shift.

    4. Ad book is more than half our revenue, and as the team reaches targets, money is given back to augment training budget

    5. Parents need to solicit ads for a minimum of $25, and contribute $5 for a team ad - note that in Fall 2013 the club has rolled these fees into the registration costs

  7. Forms - this is a great time to start collecting the forms outlined in the Package Instructions and to take pictures of the players for uploading into gotsoccer.
