A mixed squad of U17 thru U19 Seals Club players are off to Spain June 26th with Coach Ben Studholme to test themselves against top-flight European Club competition at the U19 level. They will first tune up with a couple friendlies in Barcelona and then head off to the highly competitive Donosti Cup in San Sebastian with the goal to bring back championship hardware.
The boys are looking forward to this opportunity to "express" their team quality at an international venue. The Seals squad rounded out their state-side preparation with a well-executed 3-1 scrimmage win against the Richmond Sol Cobras, responding to a 0-1 half-time deficit to make the necessary adjustments, take command of the midfield, and slot home three unanswered 2nd-half goals, the "decider" being a beautifully struck free kick by left-back Will Simpson. Forward Spencer Johnson notched the other two goals.
Coach Ben is employing a 3-5-2 formation with the intend to control the midfield & emphasize attack. These talented Seals look to make a statement on the Iberian Penninsula with an entertaining and aggressive style of play.
The Seals squad's travel experiences and EuroTour/Spain 2013 competitive highlights will be chronicled by defender Ian James through a series of blogs posted to this website. Watch for them! .... Go Seals!
