As a football player, you study tape, build camaraderie with your teammates, lift weights to build strength, perfect your skills and it’s all to prepare to be the best on game day. It’s a process.                                                                                                                     

    Recruitment is similar. Every day you work towards reaching the goal of a roster spot on a collegiate football program. It starts with putting together a game plan. Below is your football recruiting timeline. See Where YOU Stand.

Freshmen Year: Research. Exposure.

·         Work toward min. 3.0 GPA and work toward practicing with the 1’S

·         Create your NLR profile and work with your NLR Recruiter to create a list of 50 prospective schools (Each week research 2-3 schools)

·         Have a phone call / email marketing campaign in place. (Through the NLR network of over 12,000 College Coaches )

·         Fill out questionnaires received in the mail and send them back right away

·         Try to go on at least 3 unofficial visits

·         Confirm your level of recruiting activity. Highly Recruited – Not Recruited (See are you being recruited) on our website.

Start of Freshman Year Review NCAA core course requirements with your counselor. Take at least one approved core course in Math, English, Natural /Physical Science and Social Science or Foreign Language.
   
Start of Freshman Year Download the list of core courses offered at your school-and the NCAA Core Course GPA Calculator worksheet-before you meet with your counselor.
   
Freshman Year  Create your free NCAA profile account.

            

 

Sophomore Year: Relationships. Film Footage.

·         Schedule unofficial visits to programs

·         Continue to work toward min. 3.0 GPA and work toward practicing with the 1’S

·         Hone in on the schools you’re most interested in from your list of 50

·         Continue to work with your Coach and your Next Level Recruiter.

·         Make highlight footage (NLR Produced)

·         Confirm your level of recruiting activity. Highly Recruited – Not Recruited (See are you being recruited) on our website.

Start of Sophomore Year Review your transcript with your counselor to ensure you're on track to meet NCAA core course requirements. Take at least one approved course in Math, English, Natural/Physical Science and Social Science or Foreign Language.
   
Sophomore Year Take PSAT to familiarize yourself with standardized tests.
   
End of Sophomore Year Are you are receiving DI or DII interest? If Yes, create an NCAA Certification Account (cost: $80.00 for US athletes.  

Tips from the Expert:

·         DI and DII coaches can’t personally contact you, but NLR can contact them by sending letters and emails.

·         DIII and NAIA coaches can contact you, when they do, stay in touch and build the relationship!

·         High level DI will make offers during summer of your sophomore year

 

Junior Year: 5-5-5 List. Highlights. Proactive Ath-leader.

·         Develop a 5-5-5 List: 5 programs that may be slightly above your reach, 5 programs that are a good fit, 5 back up schools

·         Next Level recruiting will continue to follow-up with coaches with phone calls/email/letters and where you stand on their list of recruits

·         Attend combines, camps and one-day college-sponsored camp.

·         Update highlight footage tape (NLR Produced)

·         Confirm your level of recruiting activity. Highly Recruited – Not Recruited (See are you being recruited) on our website.

Start of Junior Year Register with the NCAA eligibility center AKA (Clearing House) Have your counselor send you your transcript to the NCAA Eligibility center.
   
Start of Junior Year Take your first ACT and or SAT - this will give you time to take it again if you need to. Use school code "9999" to have your scores sent to the NCAA.
   
End of Junior Year Review your transcript with your counselor to ensure you're on track to meet the NCAA core course requirements. You should know the exact courses you will need to hit eligibility based on your meeting at the end of your Junior year.
   
End of Junior Year Have your counselor send your transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center

If you haven’t heard from DI coaches, have Next Level Recruiting reach out to DII, DIII or NJCAA and NAIA programs

 

Senior Year: Committing to Success athletically and academically.

·         Follow-up with coaches and schedule official visits (only 5 total official visits to DI and DII schools)

·         Start your financial aid planning, register for FAFSA (fafsa.ed.gov) as soon as January 1 (NLR assisted)

·         Officially commit to a program (Signing Day is first Wednesday in Feb. through April 1)

·         Find out when you need to report to camp

·         Update highlight footage tape (NLR Produced)

Start of Senior Year Take your second ACT and/or SAT again if necessary. Use school code "9999" to have your scores sent to the NCAA.
   
Senior Year If not already, register with the NCAA eligibility center AKA (Clearing House) Complete your amateurism questionnaire within your NCAA Certification Account.
   
April 1 of Senior Year Request your final Amateurism Certification within your Certification Account.
   
End of Senior Year Have your counselor send your FINAL high school transcripts and proof of graduation to the Eligibility Center.
