The Western Nebraska Pioneers today announced the creation of the Western Nebraska Thunder baseball tournament, to be held in Gering, NE June 21-23, 2019. 

This 14U, sixteen-team tournament will allow youth baseball teams to play at the new Oregon Trail Park Stadium, home of the Pioneers, the 2018 Expedition League Champions. Also in use will be the Gering American Legion baseball field, adjacent to the new ballpark. All teams will play on the new field and all teams are guaranteed three games during the tournament. 

"To be able to create opportunities for young players to be on the same field as the Pioneers is very important to us," Pioneers Owner/General Manager Chuck Heeman said. "The facility is for our entire region, not just for the Pioneers, and this is one small way we can start making use of this great ballpark and expose young players to what it's like if they continue their careers. We are also proud to work with the Gering American Legion baseball program to provide space for more teams to participate. This will be a fun event and we can't wait to get it started."
