It was a hard day for the Seals. We started it off with a 3-0 loss in our final group game. The defeat meant that we needed the other two teams in our group to draw for us to go into the top bracket. So the team went to watch that other game where we were forced to watch the Basque team beat the French team 2-0. We were only given brief consolation that it wasn't raining before it started pouring on the walk back to the bus.
Still the next day we roused ourselves and went out to win our bracket. Our first playoff game was against fellow Americans, which is unfortunate because we wanted to celebrate Fourth of July by being the only obnoxious Americans in our game. We controlled most of the play and won 1-0 courtesy of a goalmouth scramble that culminated in a volley by Will Slotterback inside the six yard box.
On Friday the quarters, semis and final for our bracket will all take place, so hopefully we will be utterly exhausted by the end of the day.
Note: Defender Ian James is traveling with the U19 - U17 team in Spain and will be chronicleing the experience which will be posted on the Seals website.
