Seals to Play Fiji National Team April 11thMarch 26, 2007
The San Francisco Seals announced today that they will play the Fiji Men’s National Team at 7:00pm on April 11th at Chabot Community College in Hayward. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to play the Fiji team.” Stated Seals Head Coach and General Manager Tom Simpson. “We hope to have a great game, raise some funds to help sponsor the Fiji team, and provide the Fiji community in the East Bay with a fun evening!”
The Fiji National team is here on the “The Friendly tour of USA” in preparation for the ‘PACIFIC GAMES’ from the 1st of April until 19th April 2007. The tour was approved by the USSF and organized by the Fiji FA agent and USA representative Mr. Mark Drown a close friend of national team coach Carlos Buzzetti, with the assistance of Mr. Arif Khan and the Fiji Community in San Francisco.
The tour will mark the debut of 19 year old Roy Krishna with the senior national team. Earlier this year Krishna, a virtual unknown who was discovered at a tryout by Coach Buzzetti, won the Golden Boot Award as the leading scorer at the Oceania U-20 World Cup qualifying tournament. The Fiji coach has received numerous inquiries from U.S. colleges regarding the services of the talented youngster and will use the tour to put Krishna's talents on display for the scouts.
The team will be in San Francisco from April 1st to the 11th and Utah from April 12th to 19th. In Utah the squad will be training at the Sport Centre of BYU, a modern place in high altitude with all the necessary facilities that was used recently by the USA National Squad. A total of 22 players will travel to USA with the objective of cultural exchange, community links, sport activities, and football (soccer) exposure and experience.
The tour is made possible by Fiji FA and its partners in football to ensure that the national team is fully prepared to defend its No 1 status in the Pacific, thus enabling the team to qualify for the Oceania World Cup playoffs beginning in September 2007.
Tickets are $5 for General Admission. Children under 13 years of age are free.
Tickets will be available at the gate, and online at the Seals website shortly.
