Season Finale Weekend PreviewJuly 19, 2007
This Saturday (7/21) and Sunday (7/22) will see the Seals finish their season at home against two contenders. Each team needs beat the Seals to have a chance for the playoffs. Both matches will be played at USF Negoesco Stadium, and will start at 4:00pm.
The Fresno Fuego come into town for the game on Saturday. They currently are in second place, three points behind league leading San Fernando Valley Quakes. The Fuego need the three points to win the tie breaker on head-to-head with one win and a tie over the Quakes. The Fuego have the better of their next rival, the Ventura County Fusion based on goal differencial. But a loss to the Seals, and a win by the Fusion would knock the Fuego out. The Fusion play Friday night, so the Fuego will know what's on the line Saturday at game time. Last weekend the Seals ended the LA Storms hopes, as three straight wins would have given them a chance at second place. Will the Seals be a spoiler for the Fuego? Sunday, the first local PDL Derby match in San Francisco will be held as the San Jose Frogs come to play at USF the season finale. Earlier this year the Frogs took it to the Seals, 2-0 in San Jose. This Sunday's match is important to both teams as they want to win for the local AND team record, but for the Frogs, Saturday's matches are equally important. Should both the Fusion and Fuego loose their matches, the Frogs could leap over them and into second place with a win over the Seals. What a way to finish the season! |
