Seals to Participate in AYSO National Meeting

May 20, 2008

AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) - one of the world’s largest youth sports organizations with over 650,000 players, 250,000 adult volunteers and 50,000 teams - will be holding its 2008 National Meeting in San Francisco during Memorial Day Weekend. For two days prior to the Meeting, May 22 & 23, hundreds of visiting AYSO delegates and local volunteers will be participating in community mprovement projects in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point community next to Monster/Candlestick Park. The 2008 goal is to exceed 1,000 man-hours of volunteer time.

Projects include restoration, improvement and beautification at Bret Harte Elementary School, Gilman Playground and Alice Griffith Community Garden. There will also be a youth coaching class, two pro soccer games, soccer celebrities, two BBQs and pub crawl. In addition to AYSO, participating organizations include San Francisco Seals soccer, San Jose Earthquakes soccer, San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Bret Harte Elementary School and America SCORES.

As part of the Kick-off night Soccer Clinic Thursday night, the Seals U21 team will hold an exhibition match at 5:30pm, and the coaches & players will be available afterwards for Q&A.  We look forward to the event, and to working with the AYSO in the future.
