Wilson Earns PDL Honors for 2nd Time

June 4, 2008

Kellan Wilson was named to the PDL Team of the Week for the second time this season for his goal scoring performance in the Seals away win last Friday (5/30) against the Orange County Blue Stars.

Wilson setup the first goal of that match in the 20th minute when he received a thru ball and split the Blue Star defense of Joel Smith and David Sias.

Wilson was on the run between the two defenders and appeared to have last man Sias beat on the way to the ball when he was taken off his feet about 25 yards out.  “I thought he should have had an automatic red,” stated Head Coach Tom Simpson.  “He was obviously the last man, and Kellan would be one-on-one with the goalie.”

Wilson
encouraged referee Alejandro Mariscal to pull the red card, but Sias got off with a yellow card.  Efrain Burgos Jr. (Junior) knocked in the goal.

Wilson scored in the 39th minute on a header with the assist coming from Junior.  That goal tied the game at 2-2.

The winning goal, and Wilson’s second of the match, came in the 74th minute on an assist from Rawlston Masaniai.  Wilson had pulled his man wide, and Masaniai put a thru ball behind the defense when Wilson’s man stepped up to challenge Masaniai.  “I got in behind him, took a look, and just managed to power the ball past the keeper” said Wilson.  “It was a great ball from Rawley, and it felt great to get that win!” he added.
