Next Up - Brigade & Frogs - Final Weekend!

July 16, 2008

Note:  Start time for BOTH games this weekend have changed to 7:00pm.

The Bakersfield Brigade will come into Friday's game at USF Negoesco stadium having lost to the Seals in an ugly match in Bakersfield 2-0.  They blame the Seals, the Referee's, and . . . whatever.  The Seals felt lucky to get our of a very unfriendly atmosphere with the win, and with reasonably healthy players.

We don't want to kid ourselves, that this is anything other than a good team struggling with a poor outcome for the season.  They will want to play spoiler, and will come out  ready to play a hockey game if necessary.

"I'm not exactly sure how this got to be such a heated rivalry," said Seals head coach Tom Simpson, "But it is perhaps the most heated rivalry in the Conference."

The Bay Area knows cross town rivalry.  We have the A's and the Giants, the Raiders and the 49ers, the Earthquakes and . . . Ok - they don't have one.  But PDL soccer DOES, and it's the Seals and the Frogs.

You can bet that the Frogs would take consolation in playing the spoiler role for the Seals if they can.  They are another team that had high expectations for the season, but have not had the same success as last year.  It's been tough.

They started the season with a 3-1-1 record, and looked like they were going to pick up right where they left off last season when they just missed the playoffs.  June was a struggle, and the Frogs finished just 1-3-2.  July hasn't been any kinder.  They will play the Brigade after our match with them on Saturday, and then play us on Sunday.

We hope to see you at USF this coming weekend as we tackle these two tough teams, and make our final effort for a playoff spot!
