One Win = Playoff Spot - Two Wins = Championship

July 17, 2008

The Quakes and Fuego both won tonight which was the 2nd best scenario for the Seals.  The Fuego losing and the Quakes winning would have been the best.

The Fuego defeated the Southern California Seahorses in commanding fashion by beating them 5-2.  Fresno took the lead in the 10th minute on a goal by Jesus Santiago.  Amaury Nunes scored the first of two goals for the evening in the 42nd minute off an assist by Fabricio Codeceira.  The goal was Nunes' sixth of the season, and the assist was Codeceira's 10th. The Seahorses came back in the 46th minute, but three straight unanswered goals in the 66th, 80th, and 86th minute decided the game for the Fuego.  The win gave the Fuego first place with 29 points, and one game left to play.

In San Fernando Valley, the Quakes held on against the Ventura County Fusion as the Quakes came burst out with three straight goals in the 44th, 51st, and 56th minute.  Ventura got two back in the 73rd and 90th minute (an own goal), but it was too late for the Fusion, and the Quakes held on for the win.

But since the Quakes and Fuego both play each other the last game of the year that means all the Seals need is one win in their last two games to clinch a playoff spot.

Of course, two wins gives us the division.

So while we control our fate we also have a mulligan if needed.

Come on you Seals!
