Quakes & Houston Get it ON!September 17, 2008
It was a rough & tumble match last Saturday night as the San Jose Earthquakes and the Houston Dynamo's played to a 1-1 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Both teams scored in the second half, but Houston had to come from behind against these upstart Earthquakes who lately, just don't seem to have the word "quit" in their vocabulary. The last round of player acquisitions they made have really paid off well. Since July 5th, the Quakes haven’t lost a regular season match (they did lose to the Sounders back on September 2nd). Their play has them in the thick of the race for a playoff spot. Yallop seems to work his magic best in San Jose. There was some serious physical play out there, but it was Houston who tallied up the cautions, with a total of six to San Jose's 1. Two of the cautions went to Houston's Eddie Robinson, who may be sitting it out the next time these two teams meet (the game on 9/20 is showing postponed on the MLS website). All together there were 31 fouls (San Jose 12, Houston 19). Brian Ching reportedly came off the field after scoring his tying goal shouting at the sellout crowd and pointing to the Dynamo crest on his jersey. "We're the ones who put two stars on their jersey," Ching said, referring to the championships the Earthquakes won before they moved to Houston, and which are claimed by these expansion Earthquakes. "I told them to show some respect." Fat chance. |
